 Lake Charlotte gator attack
http://abc13.com/news/boy-father-attack ... ke/812888/WALLISVILLE, TX (KTRK) -- It was a terrifying day at a Chambers County park Sunday for a father and his son. They were both attacked by an alligator. It happened at Cedar Hill Park at Lake Charlotte off FM 563 just north of I-10. According to the Chambers County Sheriff's Office, 13-year-old Kaleb Hurley was swimming near the bank when witnesses say an alligator came up and bit his arm, pulling him under. The boy's father, 42-year-old James Hurley, ran into the water and was able to save his son, but the gator reportedly went after him, biting him on the leg. James Hurley was able to kick the alligator until it released him. Both father and son were flown by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital, where they're listed in serious, but stable condition. The incident is being investigated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

 Re: Lake Charlotte gator attack
Wow - with water so high it sure is not safe to swim out there as the natural order of things is so out of the normal rules and limits....
Snakes - ants - gators - hogs are all struggling to survive and things are far from "normal" with the river running so hard....
Glad both will recover...

 Re: Lake Charlotte gator attack
That park has to be under water. Lake livingston was back to normal levels this weekend. Hwy 59 at Trinity river was high and flowing hard saturday, it was still high today but little to no current. Flood waters should be receding here in a matter of days. I've been out of that park by kayak several times and seen gators there before. I've also seen several 10 footers on the sand bar at the north entrance.
Definitely no place to be playing around.

Dammit man! Not good! Gator attacks, sharks, rainbows on the white house and supreme court ordering the removal of the Ten Commandments.. Probably just coincidence!

 Re: Lake Charlotte gator attack
I dont think they shoulda killed it, maybe cought it and relocated it, but not kill it. It was just doing what an alligator does, the guy was an idiot for jumping in knowing it was there. Theres this wonderful thing called natural selection, to many idiots in this world.

 Re: Lake Charlotte gator attack
Damn right they should have killed it, that place is covered up with gators like rats. Besides the flooding which is making them more territorial than ever, there is a population problem that TPWD refuses to acknowledge. There are not near enough tags being issued and not near enough being harvested. This is the case in this entire part of the state. Places where you used to occassionally see a couple every now and then, you can regularly go see 6-8.
The guy who killed the alligator I s likely the brother of the man who was killed. The state is looking to slap him with charges over it which is ridiculous. YES the guy was a complete and utter moron for doing what he did. Theres no doubt about that, but saying they should have relocated that gator is some treehugger shit. It needed a bullet long before it had the guys arm for dinner.

 Re: Lake Charlotte gator attack
Louisiana is very overpopulated also. They let go more farm raised alligators every year than harvest tags are given out.

 Re: Lake Charlotte gator attack
I've never been over there so maybe they are. But from i've seen this direction. I don't see how they are "over populated". Years ago I remember going up amd down the old/lost river when the water is lower and seeing 4-5 gators on every sand bar. Now i get excited if i see 4-5 in a whole day of rideing. There's a few more on the Trinity side but given its a huge cypress swamp its not a problem. The marsh outside of the project is not much different, theres only a few places i know i can find gators. And nobody wants to hunt them ontop of that. For every 4 acres of property you own down there, you get 1 tag. Several people i know out there don't even fool with it because they know there's not enough gators out there much less any of decent size.
Call me a tree hugger or whatever you like, and trust me normaly im far from it, but i still dont think it should have had the outcome it did. The dude was a grade A moron who first cursed the gator then entered its habitat, the gators home turff. It was just doing what god intended it to do, the guy just happened to be its next meal. I wouldn't have expected any less. Mother Nature was just doing her job too, culling the heard.
I have no sympathy for stupid people, I believe if someone has the ignorance and stupidity to do something crazy, then they deserve the consequences . Kinda like the guy who stuck a firework mortar on his head...
