I'll be doing two 6-8" bars on the front of my boat for hunting season this year. Id rather not run a handheld spotlight anymore than I have to. My old halogen spot light does fine situationally but it's less than ideal to rely on.

I don't want to debate quality etc, we've been down that road a hundred times, and will a hundred more. I'm mainly concerned with the type of light needed for running in the pitch black dark on the water. Sometimes it's foggy, sometimes it's clear. Sometimes it's raining etc. I know one light won't be the best in every circumstance, but would one be better all around?

I run a 3000k 25w HID setup in the fogs in my truck which are a bright yellow light. I see light bars with Amber lenses etc... I know in general, LED bars are bright as hell, but sometimes there is such a thing as "too bright" I guess... Any input??

Amber hands down in any condition will work. 6k is great in clear in no fog but sucks with fog. I use Amber filters always.

Looks like there are tinted filters available for most of the cheap light bars, rigid sells them for their own. Anybody used them? It says on all of them that the buyer is responsible for cutting and making them fit... I'm not expecting Rigid quality for $5 lens covers, but I don't want flat out junk either lol

I have a seelite 20" bar. I think they have tinted ones. It was an affordable price for the size (i want to say $230?) and you've seen how i drive...wtfo trees and bushes in my way or not i go lol. Its held up almost perfect.

Sorry i got off on the brand thing but its good info and i never see anyone talking about seelite.

I don't have the tinted lens and i cant say it absolutely blows with foq or even any surface stream it makes it a pain to see whats on the water.

Amber is the best in conditions that aren't the best. White gets washed out in moisture and just glares everywhere and you can't see anything. Amber isn't as bright but it "cuts through" fog and rain better. And those lenses are pretty good! It changes the color completely and you only lose like 5-15 percent light output through the filters depending on brand
