He'd make a nice belt if he wasn't shot right in the middle. It's never fun to be walking along in the woods and hear that rattle, no other noise will make you feel the way that will. |

I was bitten by a copperhead last year.. Bite wasn't too bad . 2 of my dogs were bitten 2 years ago. One was a puppy (12 weeks old) he did fine. The other was my old girl. She wasn't paying attention and laid down on one |

What did you do to treat the bites on the dogs? I've heard benadryl works |

i went back to work . Gave them Benadryl injection, pain injection,, a steroid and started on antibiotics. The pup received mostly a dry bite (due to amount of swelling present). The old girl got some venom but wasn't reacting too badly and was away from her face / neck and monitored for signs of tissue damage. The hospital I worked at then did not have antivenin or else I probably would have given her a dose ... My squirrel dog (feist mix) was bitten last week... He was almost non-responsive when I found him... He got fluids and antivenin ASAP in addition to the treatment I gave my other dogs. Had about 1.5" wide fang marks in his chest... And he was a lot smaller (I'm a veterinarian btw) |

I'll try to get a pick of my dad's lab that got tagged in the chest. Ate away the tissue. Vet here tried to stitch it back together, but due to the amount of dead skin the sutures kept popping. Had a peewee football sized hole in his chest, muscle was good and pink. Began treating it with antibiotics and sulfur. Took about 3 weeks and it has grown back together. I'll get a pic and post a before and after. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk |

Dogs don't have the same issues with snake venom we do. They will be quite succeptable to infection and some tissue death depending on the area they were bitten, and swelling causing other issues (breathing problems, blood flow, etc) but they're more capable of fighting the venom itself than we are. |
