Ford to a Chevy this time  Today was a pretty big day for me, bought/financed my very first truck. I couldn't be more excited! I've been grinning ear to ear all day. Old truck I been driving would only get 11.5 mpg and that was on a good day. New one got 21mpg all the way home doing 75mph. Gonna be a whole new experience for me, better to figure it out sooner than later I guess though

Looks great man! I wish I got 21 mpg! My 2012 sierra gets roughly 14 lol.

Good looking truck, enjoy that MPG, but do not change anything (lift/level/tires) if the MPG is that important to you.
I have the new GMC SLT 4x4 crew cab but after a 7 inch lift and 35 inch mud tires I get 12.5MPG around town. MPG is not important to me at all though, I love the truck, the ride and improvements they made are miles above the prior year models.

Enjoy

My 07.5 crew cab GMC still gets a hair over 20mpg on a trip, usually averages around 18. The new trucks are really nice but I can't bring myself to pay what they want for one yet. Congrats on the new wheels!

Makes me want to cry. I get about 12 in my dodge. And 10 when I pull a boat.

08 f150 with 33's gets 15mpg and 10 towing

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Looks good. I think 15 is the last year for that color too. In the 2500 anyway.

Congrats I did the same this year. Bought a high country duramax 4X4. Been running dodge for 10 years. Figured I'd try something different. I got the same fuel mileage also. Put a lift and 35" tires. 12/16 mph

Thanks guys. Its a great feeling to buy my first truck and be able to say its 100% mine. Fuel mileage was a big concern when I was looking at them. Old truck got around 11, I was filling it up once a week and it had a 35 gallon tank. Wasn't fun. Only thing I'll do to this one is probably level the front end and get rid of those ugly stock rims. They need to be black. So I shouldn't loose much if any mpg.

Yeah I know. Last truck got 19 stock and dropped to 11 after 3"lift and 35 all terrains...not doing that again. It'll probably stay the way it is for now then do the rims and level later on

They're squeaking every mpg they can out to meet regulations, any changes make a big difference. On my GMC I actually lowered it 1" in front and 3" in back and it rides better, drives better, easier for the wife/kids to get in and out of and between the suspension and a bed cover the mpg slightly improved on the 5.3L.... It's not dropped on the ground and I still drive it everywhere any other 2wd truck goes on stock tires. If it was sitting in a parking lot you'd never notice it being lowered unless it was sitting between two stock height trucks. It's very subtle. Stock size tires also means not buying those expensive damn tires. I had it lifted for a while before we had kids..... Never again rode and drove like shit and got 13mpg, tires were stupid expensive and didn't last.

I have a '14 and I leveled it the day I bought the truck, mpg went from 24 to about 21.
Not that big of a difference. Pulling my boat I get about 17 or so.

^^^^I love a stock truck. I have a 04 GMC z71, old man truck. Tan in color. 200k miles. Bone stock with stock tires. Gets 21 mpg on the highway and will go through whatever I need it to off road. Also....it doesn't ever get pulled over bc the cops don't mess with old guys.

That's some good mileage.

Excuse the average that says 10.2 that's because I just reset it. This motor has the mode where it switches between v4 and v8 depending on speed and load and all that. It stays in v4 mode below 55. Two pics to compare between the v4 and v8...

Some people call a live MPG readout a "Lie-o-Meter"

Keep an eye on the oil level. My 07 Chevy 1500 burns about a quart every 5000 miles. Several friends with the same issue. They supposedly fixed it within the last few years but something to be aware of

Nice ride. I was looking at new trucks today. Would love to get something better on fuel that the beast I'm driving. 08 Nissan Titan Pro4x. 6" lift and 35". Get around 12mpg. About 9.5 pulling a trailer. But I can't stomach what they are asking for trucks these days. 45K just seems outrageous to me.

Just leveling the front dropped my mileage by about 1 mpg, guessing the slight change in aerodynamics or whatever...doesn't bother me though

Calculate mileage over a whole tank of fuel. The reason the new ones get good mileage is they are low to the ground and have 3.08 gears in a lot of models. Gm has a good truck, But the price of them is crazy. The days of getting a Z-71 for 25k are GONE!

Author:  SETx Longtail [ Thu Oct 22, 2015 12:08 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: jumped ship...again

The 3.08's in mine pretty much suck for pulling anything down the hwy in OD but I've pulled 9K worth of skid steer and trailer with mine in 3rd and helper bags.... But it won't pull my boat in OD either. My older 4.3L reg cab truck with 3.42's does about the same honestly lol.

The truck is primarily the wife's though. Adding some 3.73's would make it do about everything I needed to much easier. Can't argue with the mileage though. If I really need to pull anything these days I have a 5500 Dodge 4WD and a fuel card
