Thinking about the "Texas-Rig" style... What do ya'all think? Like 'em, Hate 'em?
Particularly interested in hearing how you are transporting and storing. Can you just throw ' em in the bag all together, or got to do something special?

I swapped over to them about 3 years ago, and I no longer have pissed off morning trying to untangle them!
Most of the time, I keep them on a clip, and clip it to my center console. They don't get messed up and out of the way.
I've also just put them in the boat all clipped together. Just undo the clip when you are ready to use them and grab the decoy and the weight wont get tangled in the mess.

No question. Make the change. Mine are clipped on my front deck and out of the way.

Mine are slowly transitioning into them. Do it.

I used them for walk in hunts for a few years and they were great. I quickly found that they weren't the way to go for everywhere else I hunted and they were more hassle than they were worth. They aren't so tangle free when there's 6 dozen of them on the floor of the boat along with another 20 goose floaters, 4 guns and guys. For me its easier to river wrap them and stack them up. Also the weights arent big enough for me.

Tangle free is great , but I went to 400 pound mono it NEVER tangles in the boat "texas rigged"I did put all my deeks in bags. I stopped using the bags ans went to 12 slot mag bags for everything and keep the species separate per slot bag and just stack them ontop each other. We use a lot of decoys 8 to 10 dozen this just keeps them easy to deal with in the dark. If im hunting puddle ducks I grab them , if not I just grab the other. But tangle free WILL tangle.

I was looking at some of the Tx rig "kits" and it looks like I can probably piece this stuff together cheaper just to do 3-4doz decoys.

I see everyone uses the 3-400lb monofilament. Has anyone ever used the big rolls of decoy line and crimps?? Only problem I see with doing it this way is finding weights that will slide on the bigger line. The decoy line is $9 for 250ft. Crimps are only a few bucks.

If its line pvc decoy line im thinking of it tears and stretches pretty easily. I would think the carabiner loop would eventually stretch or break out of the crimp but I dont know.

Texas rig all the way. We set out 8 doz. and carry all in boat. We have three different set ups depending on water depth. Picking up is where you save time. Just grab decoy, put in boat and let weight hang in water until you've picked up half of your spread. Stop and put on carabiners. Then on to other half of spread.

To throw, unhook line loops from carabiner, grab a decoy body and pull away. Sting and weight will split from stack very nicely. Throw weight and decoy together.

Texas rigs aren't so tangle free riding 4 wheelers or utv's to pit blinds in fields. Slotted bags are the way to go for that. Most times the lines are too long and get tangled up in the stubble.

You have to tie a big knot snug up against the decoys then anothe further up the set up if for deeper water.

Current set up and my recommendations are result of 50 years of decoy setting experience. I've tried everything and this is how to do it.

It may work for you but it damn sure doesn't work for me. I can pick up and wrap a decoy and have it tucked out of the way in a few seconds. No having to tie any knots or fool with carabiners and what not.

I make custom tx rig lines. $2 per anchor.

They work good if you're not going to be changing the depth of water you hunt. If you do get them get the ones with the sliding swivel not the sliding weight. Makes em easier to pick up.

They work very well sometimes (namely when the depth of water is shorter than you are tall). They don't, however, work great when the depth you place decoys varies between 6-12 feet in the same location. 13 ft Texas rigged is a pain to deal with.

Just use 2 or three weights per decoy in deeper fast moving water. Problem solved for the cry baby.

I use yo-yos on my decoys. Pull out what you need add a hook. I call it duckin & jugging. Get a catfish now you have motion. I need a patent. Really

Paint some camo, add camo hooks, then market them. You'd sell some to those guys with "The Fever" stickers on their trucks lol

I made 60 inch Texas style rigs as you guys call em. I took a couple of sea duck hunters out with me and they laugh at my decoys only using 1 oz weights. Due to the current they gang rig them and put them on 30 lbs or bigger anchors. It all just depends on your application
