What are you all using and having success with as far as taking care of your shotguns when hunting around saltwater or water in general? I've always given mine a WD40 wipe down after hunts but am thinking about giving corrosion x a try. Who's using it on their shotgun and how has it done? Looking for something to prevent rust and lubricate if they make a do all what is it? |

CLP (break free is the most common name brand). Hangs on pretty well, and will get rid of rust as good as wd40. Does a better job of lubricating though. It's the best do it all I've found in the many attempts at finding something better. Rem oil works pretty good too at prevention, just not as well at removing it once it forms. I clean really well every year or two with acetone, then give my shotgun a couple doses of miltec for lubrication (requires some heat cycling to bond properly with the metal, so I use a heat gun, then a reapplication using a heat gun again). After that, I've been using a bit of Rem oil lately for corrosion protection on the parts that don't have cerakote, but the miltec is on all the moving parts. It (the miltec) just doesn't do alot for rust prevention, in spite of the excellent job at keeping the moving parts moving really well. |

Hornady one shot is pretty good, it's a cleaner with a dry lubricant so you don't have to worry about it gumming up in cold weather like the heavier oils Wil do |

Dfou, best is quite subjective, but its definitely great stuff. g96 is another clp, and probably better than break free and most others in that category. I haven't found a clp that isn't prone to needing refreshing every couple hunts, but it's not as prone to gumming with powder in the cold after extended use. I don't always like having to fool with my shotgun after a nasty weather hunt, and other than blowing the worst of the water out, I don't do anything but some rem oil on a couple spots every week or two until season is over. |

We hunt saltwater 99% of the time, We have used everthing you can think of lol are Guns are on there last leg. Next season we WILL need new guns. This is what we have done. Spray gun down very well, after hunt come home put a big pot of water on the stove bring to a rolling boil , pour all over your guns , fire up the compresser blow all the water out till there dry then respray them down and put them up. Also wash out your gun case and let dry before you put your guns in them. If you do this your guns Will last a life time. I just want a new gun lol. |

CORROSION-X, plain and simple, dry it and clean it inside and out and apply light coat to all surfaces then a dab on moving parts and your golden. The rest is just hokey! |

Corrosion X It's so damn good that if you apply it to metal, you can't paint it or cerakote it or anything for a year, nothing will stick to it... ![]() The Corrosion X, Aviation & Gun is all the same thing, just a different package http://www.corrosionx.com/specification ... n-data.pdf http://www.corrosionx.com/msds/corrosionx-data.pdf http://www.corrosionx.com/msds/corrosionx-data.pdf |

It's a lot to read but there is some very good information and some surprising results on test done with many popular brands on this thread. You can skim thru and there are some charts and pictures of all the different test. Hornady one shot and Frog lube are 2 of the best. |

Military issue CLP.... Get it at GI surplus stores. Works great. I do keep a can of brake clean and a can of Aero-Kroil in the boat as well as WD40 for the engine for its bath after running. |

You guys using the red can corrosion x or the green HD can? Also where you finding it for the best price? Only place I can find it is academy and it's high as giraffe pussy but I guess it's worth it |

Post subject: | Re: Shotgun Luricant/Rust Prevention |
Red label is the one you want, the green is more akin to light grease. Academy is the only readily available source, but more and more industrial/marine supply shops are starting to carry it in the full sized cans. I think I saw it available online also. It's been a pricey product since I first remember seeing it (maybe 15-20 years ago) but a little goes a long way! |
