Any of you fellows ever shouldered one? I'm seriously considering giving 2 house payments and my right testicle to own one. Biggest question I had was about the vent rib. In every photo I've seen it looks like a high vent rib, like all the sbe2's and M2's have. I've never seen a o/u with a high vent rib, they've all been flat. I have always said if somebody came out with a high rib o/u, I'd get one because you wouldn't have to readjust going from a semi Benelli to an o/u. Haven't seen one in a store around but there are plenty on gunborker. |

I have shouldered the Benelli O/U and thought it was ok at best. I am selling a few guns out of the safe to get my son a new competition gun. It is a FAIR Carrera Sporting model (made by Rizzini).http://www.fair.it/media/popup/carrera_ ... popup.html Nicer than any gun I own, but my son could get some scholarship money through competitive sporting clays so it is worth the investment. Ok, not interested in a lift kit for a vent rib. Not interested in another flat vent rib gun. What I want to know is if the Benelli o/u has a higher than flat stock vent rib so it points like a sbe2 or a m2. |

If I recall it is very similar to the sbe. The high rib is typically added from a professional gun fitter. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

If it points like a sbe2 I'll be impressed. Never shot an o/u that had that sight plane |

Looks like a normal sporter rib to me. Don't know how benelli cuts their stocks but if they're anything like their parent company, Beretta, all of their stocks will be cut the same and should shoulder the same. Doesn't mean they'll feel anything alike As the swing will be way different. Also, just my 2ยข, but for $3k you're getting into very nice shotgun territory. The Beretta Silver Pigeons are right in that range and, in my opinion, cannot be beat in that teir. Plenty of used, quality guns around there too. Might be worth shopping around. |

FYI. A high rib is typical for a trap gun. Make sure it's for sporting clays or skeet. |

I'm not referring to a high vent rib as in your typical trap type over under. What I mean (and what it looks like in the pictures) is a high vent rib like a semi auto sbe2, versus a flat vent rib like a maxis has. There's a little rise on the rib about 2 inches in front of the receiver that I haven't seen on any other o/u. I'm not interested in the beret tad because I know what kind of rib they have, and I'm not interested I the Benelli if they have the same rib, I've got another o/u already and don't want another one if the sight plane is flat. Check it out if they have one hotsauce! |

The rib height has alot to do with the engineering of the gun in regards to the combing or stock angle. After that it is just gun fitting. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

Almost all o/u's are gonna have that step in the rib. It's to compensate for the barrels being on top of each other. Making the POI for both barrel the same. Which is also done in the casting/stamping/machining of the actual "stack" of the barrels as well. Your semi autos some have it and some dont, because cast and drop differences from model to model. Shotgunworld.com is a good resource for this kind of stuff. I used to be on there when I shot competetion sporting clays. Learned alot It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

I beg to differ jake, I've owned and shot a bunch of user unders and none of them have that step in the rib. They are all flat vent rib guns. Brownings, beretta, Rugers, franchi......all of em. The shit you wrote above sounds smart and full of research, but it's not. You're dead wrong. Show me one that comes from the factory with an elevated vent rib in the brands named above |

Okay. My beretta silver pigeon does. I'll take a pic when I get home. On just about every gun it does, it's gradual instead of a solid step. The cheaper ones use a solid step. Look at this picture and you can see it My point is is doesn't necessarily matter what it looks like one way or another the gun makers have to adjust the angle of your line of site vs the angle of the barrels to get the POI as close as possible for both barrels.. I know and you can research it for yourself, but you wrong right now It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

I don't know why this is so hard to understand. When you have a gun shimmed to set up like most American made shotguns, there are 2 types of vent ribs. The elevated ones (sbe2, m2) and the flat ones (like the montefeltro or the maxus). Every o/u I've ever shot has a fucking flat vent rib. That's a fact. It may have a little rise but it's called a flat vent rib and it gives you the perception of a flat sight plane for upland shooting. When you put the gun to your shoulder and look down the sight plane the rib is the same level as the receiver. I don't give a shit about cast, camber, blah blah blah. All I want to know is does benelli make an o/u with an elevated vent rib, unlike the flat ones that beretta, ruger, browning, franchi, Tristar, and cz have. And Buddy, you're correct. Geez it's like herding fucking cats here. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |

So No, the 828u does not meet your definition of a flat rib. It has a visible step Depending on how the stock is you may see it In the sight plane, you may not. I guess it just depends on you big your head is and how fat your cheeks are and how wide your jaw is and if you shoot with your gun high or low on your shoulder It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

I looked at an 828 for you today and took the best pics I could. I shouldered the 828 and an M2 together and the rib on the M2 seemed a little higher in my sight plane than the 828. The rib on the 828 was noticeably higher than the receiver and sighted very similar to the M2 but I could tell a difference between them. All that being said I just shouldered them both in the store and didn't study them intensely and I'm sure that shooting them side by side will be the true test. The 828 seemed like a well put together gun and felt light for an o/u but swung nice and had a balance to it that was different to me but im no benelli guy so take that into consideration. Overall I felt benelli was attempting to make the 828 feel like their popular autos and that's what you were asking I hope. |
