 Any home inspectors here?
I started taking my classes a couple of weeks ago to get my license. Just curious if anyone else here is in the business?

Nobody likes home inspectors, I wouldn't advertise that if I were you.

I've used the same guy a couple of times on some homes I have bought. You will pickup repeat customers. It is a good gig to have if you can get a solid name for yourself. Priced per square foot. can make you a few bucks.

 Re: Any home inspectors here?
A buddy of mine has been a contractor, then County inspector for 30+ years. He does the home inspection (wind mitigation) thing after hours. Probably makes an extra $30,000 a year doing the after hours home inspections.

 Re: Any home inspectors here?
Honestly... If you want to do home inspections, take your contractors exam. Get some actual building experience and then do inspections also.
I am sure there are some real food ones but the ones I have dealt with will write up bullshit just so their job is justified. I was doing a couple of projects with FHA loans. The first one found the craziest shit. After that I would leave a dozen Easter eggs for them to find and write up. Took 15 minutes to correct, they felt satisfied with a job well done and the homeowner did not have to pay for extra repairs.

 Re: Any home inspectors here?
You becoming a building inspector for the county or for insurance companies and banks? If its for the county, yeah I wouldn't tell anyone For the banks can be a good deal. I get asked to do it all the time, was thinking of getting the cert.
