Need some advice /tips in bout to start force to the pile with my 10 1/2 month old lab my buddy dog is a lil older than mine he's been forced to the pile knows hand signals and all that but for some reason he won't run a straight line back so I'm looking for some advice for both of us so he can correct his dog and I can have mine right from the get go and not have to go back over it later on like he is having to |

If possible mow a path to the pile . Line him up with his shoulders square to the pile. Start fairly close to the pile where he can easily see it and work your way back. Don't progress to further back until dog masters close. It needs to be a progression and he needs to understand the task and trust you. |

White bucket blinds. set up a blind pole out with a white bucket and have some small factor and just one factor if you can help it. dog can see the bucket line them up and kick them off if they fade with the factor stop the dog and cast use pressure only for not stopping and not going. re run the blind once maybe twice if the dog lines it good. next find a blind with the same factor in a different spot (can be the same field) and do the same thing with a bucket. after a few times of this the dog should have a good idea of how to handle the factor but with teaching with the white bucket the dog should also have a very good idea of how to cast into the factor. this is more for a dog that is through pattern blinds. i dont like revisiting pattern blinds once i am done cause at that point you are teaching the dog to run to a known location. cold blinds with a white bucket and slowly transitioning away from the white bucket help the dog understand how to fight factors. lining blinds are great but got to have a dog that can also take a cast into a factor if they get off line. |
