Why do folks with gator trax boats (for the most part, and esp if it has a mud buddy hanging off the back) want the same price as a new custom build for a 2008-2012 boat motor combo? Just something I've been noticing. |

Because they paid 3x what a new custom build costs and then they only put 8 hours on it in 5 years. ![]() |

Because if you dont ask a high price there is no chance you'll get it. Probably could be talked down several thousand. |

Not saying people with other boat brands don't do it, but it just seems to me that there's a bunch of high dollar used gator trax boats in the classifieds. And I'm throwing off on gator trax, I like their boats. but when new giraffe pussy ain't new anymore, you gotta lower said pussy |

I say don't get too worked up about it, and let em ask whatever they want. If they need to sell it quickly, they'll come off the price. If they don't, then let it sit on the market for two years. If you want to make an offer, make an offer. If it pisses them off, fuck em. If you don't want to make an offer, then don't. |

It puzzles me even more when they say " I have $30,000 invested in this boat..." Most of the time I'd like to tell them they got screwed when they bought it. Not our fault if they paid too much for it.... |

Was it financed? I think there was a loophole where you didn't have to pay taxes on the boat and motor as long as it was a cash deal. Not sure if that's still in effect. |

No, doesn't matter if it's financed or not. The only way around it, is to say you paid less for the boat than what you really paid. Just yesterday I have a buddy trade his boat, plus $20,000 cash for another bay boat. It was a person to person deal, and both boats were paid off. All they were worried about, was putting $500 value on the trailers. To keep taxes low. Then, when both of them sent papers to wildlife and fisheries to get registration in their names, they got a letter back saying they owed X amount for taxes or boat. It is now a requirement. http://www.louisianasportsman.com/details.php?id=9549 It says "sometimes" but I'm pretty sure it's all the time. |

I looked at getting a Gator Trax boat built to my design. The guys were real helpful. The quoted number is what turned me off of them pretty quick. I had Uncle J build a very similar boat, and off the mass produced spectrum of custom boats. The Gator Trax quote was around 8300, and Uncle J was around 5300. Personally, I felt like I got more bang for the buck. I can understand needing to sell something for more when you paid more for it. |

First time boat owners that get suckered... Paid way too much money to begin with for all those catch me fuck me options that nobody really needs. Then they realize the boat doesn't perform nearly as well as everyone else's... Doesn't carry a load worth a shit. Cognitive dissonance kicks in, and the search for the next sucker begins. I've priced gatortrax, gatortail, and prodigy the last month. 1854 cc with efi mud buddy or gtr......all 3 companies have been within a $1000 of each other. Which other boat builders are significantly cheaper??? |

What may seem high, may not be too high when you look at it this way. If someone is looking for a particular brand, and maybe they are open to the idea of used, they may spring for something that seems high used, when the buy new price is way higher. It may actually be a good deal if you look at it that way. So a boat that cost new 23000, but this used one with the same things in it and motor may look good at 17000 when it only is a few years old and 50 hours. Just all depends. But what I do not understand is that if there is something you want, and you truly have the money for it,, why not make an offer, sure is not going to hurt anything if it is a serious offer. Then negotiate. If the person does not want to negotiate, no big thing, wait till the next one comes along. I buy a lot of used stuff. I wheel and deal on it. I offer low and see if they will jump on it. If not, I make another offer, if I want it. If you truly want something, never walk away without throwing a serious offer on the table, even if it is really low. You never know. |
