Originally planned to fly but had a buddy say he'd rather drive his new Platinum F-250. So now 3 of our guys are flying and me and my buddy are making the 25 hour drive. On the way home we're gonna stop and stay the night in Freeport, Minnesota, home of Backwater. Already talked to them. Gonna be a fun time I'm sure!

Stay away from arlon. He's antisocial and a little bit mean. ;)

Give Arlon enough notice to put ya some of that Grain Belt on ice. You won't regret it. Excellent folks, you'll enjoy your visit I'm sure.

Pick me up on your way through Minneapolis!
Pm me about Canada in Sept. It can be insane. There isn't much up where I've hunted so plan on being pretty self sufficient. If you've never driven into Canada to hunt, have as much paperwork and whatnot done ahead of time. If you are serious about it and prepared, they'll treat you great. It's been a couple of years, but I remember that we had to pay a tax on the ammo we brought, there were strict limits on alcohol and tobacco that could be brought in. We also had to do some paperwork with our guns and have up to date Vet. records for the dogs. We brought our birds back whole (gutted) as some of the border patrols are a bit slow on bird I.D and they aren't always fully feathered in September. Depending on where you go, weather and the usual, there can be incredible opportunities for sharptail, quail, Chukkars and coyote hunting when you've limited out on waterfowl.

Good points.

Vet records for the dogs can be a bigger deal than the paperwork on the guns.

A rule of thumb is one bottle of booze per guy and one log of chew can be brought up per guy. Roughly, I haven't been across in a little while.

Going with a group of 4 other guys. 3 of them have been to Canada multiple times so we're gonna be pretty well prepared and we know what we're getting into as far as getting into Canada and what to expect while hunting. We're going with Mitch Hughes of Canadian Prairie Outfitters. I've had the chance to goose hunt with him on the eastern shore of Maryland and now have the chance to hunt ducks in Canada. Originally planned to fly but when my buddy offered to drive, and I found out we'd be able to stop and hang with the Backwater guys, I thought it would be a fun time.

We hunted with Mitch and CPO last year and are booked again this yr. It was a pretty awesome, lots of ducks, great food and the new lodge is awesome. We will be there the first week of October.

Spent last night with Larry and his wife and kids and Jake. Watched the Tennessee Vols game and enjoyed some brews. Learned even more about Backwater and their motors. Then had breakfast with Jake this morning before hitting the road. I'll be back through on Thursday to pick up my new 37.

After spending some serious time with these guys I can't overstate how knowledgeable these guys are when it comes to longtails. Not to mention they are extremely hospitable and go above and beyond to really take care of people.

You didn't have a green van with a boat on the back by chance did you?

We rolled through Freeport on our way to my parents place Saturday night and saw the SWOMP Suburban and a green van in town. I was downvoted on stopping in as the kids had just fallen asleep in back. I think my wife's finally caught on to " stopping for just one beer" not being a real thing.
