A little spin off from the hunting cartridge thread. I have had a very old Rem 870 super magnum parkerized in grey color and has held up very well. I bought a Rem 700 in .308 AAC-SD for the boys (and me occasionally) and was considering having this done to it but in a black finish. Has anyone had a rifle parkerized? |

Park is good, have you considered a cerakote? Reason I ask, is actually pretty reasonable on cost. It is very durable and has many different colors. If you are a diy you can spray it yourself, Best to have it sandblasted. Someone had a shotgun barrel done and it was nice, believe brasso. When my camo goes I'm going to cerakote mine. |

Maybe I've just had some shitty applications of cerakote but the three guns I've had it on didn't hold up worth a shit. Two were done by others and one I did myself all three wore off in spots from holster rash to sliding around in the boat/truck Sent from denda this |

As an option, you might look at W. E. Birdsong out of MS. They put on a coating called Black-T. They did a shotgun for me. They coat every part, inside and out. The stuff chemically bonds to the metal. |

Melonite also known as salt bath nitrating is the best. Second would be parkerizing when done right. Fuck cerakote or durakote, that stuff wears off and can't take heat. I've never tried Black Ice and thought about it but couldn't find anyone else who has tried it. |

I had my M2 parkerized as a warranty claim by the dealer to shut me up, It was because the factory coating would rust as soon as water got on it. The finish is a manganese coating if i remember correctly. I like it, that gun get a hard life in boats, trucks, fresh and salt water and blood. Apart from a couple of wear spots near the receiver and muzzle its holding up well. After reading all the guff about ceracote i still struggle to believe it that a "paint" would hold up to the abuse. |

Right. My old 870 super magnum is parkerized and I have used that bitch as a push pole and paddle before, with no issues. It is grey in color though, but it has stood up through some very rough conditions. But that was about 10 years ago before I bought my SBE. So I've been out of the game a while on what's out there. |
