Post Reputable Gunsmith
Hey guys. It's been awhile since I've been here. What's changed?

Teal season is right around the corner :D and I have a little problem. My damn choke is being a bitch and will not come loose from the barrel. Could one of you point me in the direction of a good gunsmith in the NOLA area.

Thanks

MB for life.

Can't help you with a NOLA gunsmith, but I can help you with a way to shoot a box of shells and it might help. :) My pop had one stuck in his Beretta and we tried everything we could think of and couldn't get it out - freezer overnight followed by hair dryer, soak in kroil, soak in 50/50 ATF and Acetone, deadblow hammer, choke tube wrench with a piece of flat bar welded to it, etc. Nothing worked.

I called Briley to see how much they would charge to cut the barrel and re-thread it. They told me that heat solves the vast majority of them when other methods don't. Figured we'd give it one more shot before shipping it off.

Pop was concerned about weakening the barrel by torch heating only a short section, so we shot a box of shells through it as fast we could load and pull the trigger. Hit it with a shot of PB Blaster and then put the cheater tube wrench to it and it came right out. Nickel anti-seize on everything we shoot now.

Good luck.

I NEVER tighten a choke more than finger tight and have not had one seize yet. I don't touch a choke wrench when putting one in. That's if you get the old one out but I also suggest busting a few rounds through it to free it up. Corrosion X is a great penetration oil. I would soak the choke end in it and then bust off a few rounds, then put a wrench to it.

I will say that a friend had a sx3 that had a camo barrel. He plugged the end and put some pub blaster or some sort of penetrant inside the bbl and let it sit a day or so. The choke came out but it soaked up the camo dip and ate off about 4" of the camo

stand the gun on the barrel in a cup full of kroil and make sure the kroil line goes above the joint of the choke and barrel so it can seep in. Otherwise heat it up with a torch or as said above shoot it a lot and fast

I had the same problem, I put some blaster in a container, set the end of the barrels in it, and let sit there for a week or 2. It came right out. The most important thing in your life, for any situation is LUBE

Kroil is awesome. I did it with Marvel mystery oil and it did not damage blueing.
