This has been a ongoing problem since I've installed my pool several years ago, but with the recent floods in our area, I need to address this. My pool is approx. 1' higher than the surrounding slabs. This is done on purpose to keep the runoff water from putting crap into the pool. The problem I have is with heavy rains, the pool will overflow and spill over onto the decking which will run to my patio and carport. The recent storms had dumped so much water onto my carport that I had to crack the garage door (carport open to back yard) so that the water could drain down the driveway.

Now my house is built way up. I have never had any flooding issues before except for this area. When the pool was installed back when, the guy who did my pool installed a catch basin with a drain pipe that went out into the yard to a pop up head. Thus taking any overflow or rainwater and sending it out to the yard where I'm built up 3'. Prob is he used perforated pipe and I have a feeling that its plugged solid with either flower bed mulch or something else. Has anyone ever had an issue like this? I'm debating on digging up the pipe and installing solid PVC on a slope so that the water will enter the catch basin and flow out to the yard.

Those types of in ground drains only really work when the ground isn't otherwise saturated like it is now. I put in some "French" gravel type drains in my yard to help in a few areas and it does work until the water table rises. Then you're back to standing water. Best thing to do in that type of situation is to make sure the pipe is long enough to run the water to a place that you don't mind staying wet. Install a couple of cleanouts along the way. I can pull a cap and run the pressure washer down in mine if I need to.

Oh, and make sure all your drains run downhill.... Water doesn't like to defy gravity

Yeah, I think that's what he did. The pipe is clogged. It does however have a pretty good runoff to the yard. I think that if I install solid pipe and have a good slope, it should be good

I put pop ups on the majority of my roof gutters on my new house. I used 4" PVC, it was cheaper, more solid and less chance to stop up. I ran them about 15' away from the house. I've seen it rain hard enough that it looks like a spring just popped up in the yard. haha. I say go ahead with the PVC for sure. At this time, you might can even up size it to 6" if you think it needs more volume for the future.

One thing is that is just going to be a "standing" water drain. the gutters will force the water through. Hopefully it should be ok.

True, you could drill a hole line only in the bottom. I put a hole at the end of mine on the bottom and it eventually percolates out.

The pop up is over near the vinyl fence. But the guy who did it, put perforated pipe and I'm sure it's plugged solid.

The pipe is,under her flower beds. I'll have to dig it up, replace with solid pipe, and if need be move th3 pipe further toward the rear of th3 yard. Really drops off over there.

How bout an overflow drain in the pool? My grandparents pool has one and it just drains into the yard

That would have bee nice, F'r didn't install one. He put an auto fill, so when the level got low, it would add. Didn't put a level control, which is simply a pipe that allows it to overflow out to some area. I have way too much pool deck to add that, so I stuck with dealing with it. But the pool level I normally around 6" lower. But a good rain storm will collect on deck even if Pol hasn't overflowed yet. Wanting to get this straight because I want to cover the patio.

Yes, the corrigated pipe had holes in it. I assume he was trying to do a french drain, but he didn't install the cloth nor rocks, so I'm just guessing that silt and flower bed material has got in it and plugged it up. And no, there is no way to crush the pipe. I will be installing a larger catch basin as well as maybe a drain strip that will catch the runoff from the pool deck before it gets to patio.

Install a sump and pipe it over the fence to the neighbors yard
