Has Huk Gear has become the new Salt Life of outdoor clothing?

It would appear so.

It's everywhere

I propose we add it to the contraband list for MMT members.

Post subject:  Re: Huk Gear = The new Salt Life

For those of you unfamiliar with the contraband list of MMT, here is a little history.

We didn't set out to create a list, it naturally happened over time through various threads - the largest contribution came from "how to display you are a badass". At the time of this posting, has grown to over 120 pages and thousands of posts. It could be the best example of how this forum governs itself, eliminating the need of douche-bag over moderation.

https://www.mudmotortalk.com/mmt_v2/vie ... start=5040

Basically, when you buy a mudmotor life changes. You will be required to figure out how to check valve lash, remedy case leaks, go slow and maintain a no nonsense attitude.

In order to remain (or become) a raw bad ass that propels himself into the hardest to reach places with the same engine bolted to his snapper, there are certain things that create clutter and give people the wrong idea. I won't post the entire list, so here are some of the items you should avoid:

White Sunglasses
Flat bill hats (ive seen some you wearing these recently...)
Salt Life anything - shirts, hats, keychains, etc.
Light bars not attached to a boat
Light bars that have no clear, functional purpose
Honda Ridgelines
Most IPA's
Havoc Boats
Large stickers that serve as a billboard on your rear window
Pods on a boat with a surface drive
Frat boy shorts (small inseam, they may be unisex?)
Rap music (this includes the new wave country variant)
Anything that takes you longer than 1 second to describe the viable purpose of logically.
Finally, "The HUK Rule" - If it seems trendy, or you see some countryclub golf boy douche owning it, its probably on the list

Thanks for the warning, spotted this and briefly wondered if this was another assault on authenticity. I realize now that it is. I will drink a very cold Pabst Blue Ribbon and pray for the speedy demise of this logo trend!

I don't hate on some of this stuff too much because at least in the case of Huk Gear, they seem to put out nice stuff. Same with IPAs, there are lots of good ones, just don't need to be a snob about them.

The same argument could be made for Costa sunglasses, the only problem with that is all these pricks on here don't want to have to get rid of theirs. :)

I was at a MLS Soccer game last night in Houston and I saw at least 500 dudes with Huk Gear. I'm sure they put out great stuff but man it is turning into fashion gear and it fishing gear.

What's the point of having fun if you don't look good and post it all over facejob and insta-lame?

If you don't show everybody else on the internet that you have a Huk shirt...do you even exist?

Nothing screams "bad ass" like a pair of silky Huk, ball-sack squeezing, snake pattern, men's spandex panties.

I need two pairs of these bad rascals.

My first pics of my Uncle J and GTR XD will be taken with me in a pair of these and nothing else.

Funny nobody's mentioned the Pelagic brand... they make some real nice stuff too but I seem to spot it more in town than I do on the water.

I might better send out an address to the Academy in Fayetteville, Arkansas or start doing a whole lot of sit-ups and crunches.

I have had the Huk stuff for a long time. Most comfortable board shorts on the market. I would wear them everyday if I could.

Not really understanding the problem here. It's just a brand. No different than everyone on here wearing Sitka, Drake and Banded clothes.

Y'all make it sound like everyone should wear white tee shirts and blue jeans and nothing else.

The Huk underwear is a little overboard though!!

In the circles I am around, you see no shortage of the 5.11 tactical gear wearers. Lots of pretenders with Velcro patches on their hats and such. To each his own, but I am not impressed.

I don't think the reference is to using this stuff for the designed purpose. It's the mentality of "look at the brand clothing I wear, know it was expensive, and know I'm awesome at fishing, hunting, or just better than the rest of you because I can afford to wear it when I'm not fishing or hubting" Not everyone that wears it in town has that mentality, but I've run across a few people that just made me chuckle because that's exactly what they were trying to project.

Russ stated it well.

I wear the 5.11 pants and shorts. They are good quality.

Go to something like Shot Show or the Infantry conference and there will be loads of dudes all decked out in it, complete with their tactical glass up on their hat, all trying to look like operators.

I like quality gear. I pick up Filson on eBay when I find it cheap. I would wear Huk if I had a need of it.

Want to really stir the stink pot?

Here in NW Arkansas they host one of the biggest biker events in the US. Every fall is the Bikes, Blues, and Barbeque ride.

Thousands of bikers show up, decked out from head to toe in their high dollar wannabe tough guy biker gear.

Back in the 70s I was around real bikers. They had rat bikes, were greasy, rough dudes.

The insurance salesman with his super expensive Harley and pristine clean leather chaps, bandana, and boots just makes me laugh.

I have been around real cowboys, and the fake ones with their giant belt buckle, hat, and boots. I been around real operators and the fake ones.

I remember back in my early days of doing MMA where if you saw someone with a Tap Out shirt, you had someone that was in the sport. A few years later that crap was everywhere, and most of the folks wearing it had never stepped into a ring, cage, or on a mat.

It was not long ago that folks were sporting lots of Duck Dynasty stuff. I have heard that it hurt the sport of duck hunting when thousands of folks who had not previously hunted, all headed to the lakes, marshes, and such to try their hand.

I think some folks just want to belong, or do something cool.

If given the choice, I would much rather see folks putting on a show, and wearing a big cowboy hat, Huk gear, a Duck Dynasty t-shirt, over the middle calls white kid trying to look like a gang banging rappers with baggy pants and such.

Bingo!!!

I hope for Russ's sake the Romp-hims start to gain popularity. He's looking awful singled out, but man, that dude rocks a onesie like nobody's business. I'm jealous.
