Post Slide in Camper
I had the idea this weekend that a slide in camper would be a great tool for duck & fish weekend trips (a nice insulated place to sleep without sacrificing my trailer hitch). I don't need running water or propane appliances or anything like that (which everything I've seen on craigslist has) so I thought I'd build one that sleeps 3 specifically for my truck. I sketched some stuff up but I was wondering if anyone has built their own before. What thickness plywood? 2x2s as framing? Waterproofing? I was thinking of wrapping it in fiberglass but I have never done any fiberglass work before so any help with that would be good too. Once I get started Ill probably start a different post showing everyone how its going.

If you can figure out designing your own sleeper you can handle fiberglass.

If you do mess with fiberglass just go slow. Good thing is if it’s ugly you can always sand it down and touch it up. I would use thin sheets of fiberglass, I don’t think you need thicker ply sheets.

How many layers of fiberglass would be necessary? I saw on amazon where I could get a roll 39" x 16.6 y which would be more than enough to cover it once over and with rollers and resin it would cost about $110.

I am all about DIY but fiberglass sucks ass to work with(I spent 2 months in Indiana learning the trade,GM tech ever since) but if you do it go with cloth over mat also a big mistake is to much resin that's where vacuum molds came into play.I didn't see where your from but truck campers don't bring much down south,i just sold a 2011 Lance 855 for 12k but purchased in 2012 for 16k.Good luck in what ever decision you make.
