Post subject:  What to bring...

I typed this once already but it didn't post & didn't save my text so here goes again:

1. Sunscreen
2. Umbrella (Academy / Wal-mart) a lot of us bought $20-30 7' umbrellas that work great to keep the sun of you while we are stopped or just hanging out.
3. Extra gas!
4. If you have VHF radio, bring it! AT&T has POOR service up there
5. Chairs / Coolers etc.
6. Bring your own food
7. Fans (if needed)
8. BYOB
9. GPS - Caddo can get confusing

I have put together a few simple rules that I hope people can respect & follow some of which are pretty standard rules of any lake or body of water others are more for our safety ensuring we'll have a good time:

A. No littering of any kind! We want to leave the area as clean or cleaner than when we arrived. If we see you litter you'll be called out!

B. If you come upon a boat fishing: Slow down prior to reaching them, idle past them then once clear you can power back up. There is nothing more that they hate then some jerk flying past them (Especially 20 boats)

C. Stay inside the boat lanes at all times until we are clear of the more populated area.

D. Most homes have canals or smaller boat lanes, these are typically all no wake zones. Do not go flying down them you are merely making every boat owner mad by throwing a wake next to each of their boat houses. Wait until the main canals before powering up to get on plane.

E. Game Wardens will be out there. Know the rules of the water. Every boat should be properly registered & owner should carry the minimum liability insurance as required by their State law. Life jackets for every individual on the boat & I believe any kids under 12 must have a life jacket on at ALL times (check TPWD website to confirm that)

F. It is legal to drink on the water in Texas. It is ILLEGAL to drink on the water in Louisiana. The lake sits more in LA than Texas so, some of the swimming holes may be on the LA side. Make a note of this. Be responsible, if you have had too much to drink let someone know so someone else can drive. We want to keep everyone safe!

G. We will have a number of boats out there, please make sure you are aware of your surroundings & keep a safe distance from any boat in your vicinity. *It is the law*

Do you have to have a life jacket on while riding in Texas with a tiller handle motor? I know in LA you do and everyone else in the boat too.

If we try to stay off the "river" as much as possible, wont have to worry about slowing down for as many fishermen or other boats.

There are plenty of boat roads that run by houses that are not no wake zones. There are not many no wake zones on the lake.

But there again if we try to stay away from those areas wont have to worry too much about it.

What are the laws on boat insurance over there? I'm still waiting on my paperwork to go thru with my insurance.

Also, I have my hull ID numbers, and my boat numbers from LDWF, but I'm still waiting on my registration stickers. As long as I have all my paperwork, I should be good right?

Thanks Poker. That's what I thought about the insurance. And the LDWF agent that inspected my boat told me the same thing about the registration. I was just checking about the TX side of things.

I picked up a pair of walkie talkie style hand held radios with a 24 mile range. Might be able to all keep in contact if several of us have one.

Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.

I got em from BPS @ Katy Mills. Midland brand, they were about $40. Come with charger dock & rechargeable battery packs, but can also be used with AA batteries if needed. Have about 20 or so channels to work on & will work with other cb type radios too.
