Went to BassPro and bought a wood duck call yesterday because you can never have too many calls. The new lease is loaded with woodies so I figured I'd try it. Anyone have success calling woodies?

They are not as prone to calling as other birds but I have decent success at getting their attention and putting them on the water pretty regular.

There's really no point. I'm the same way! If they want to come in they are. They have a certain spot that they want to go and nothing is goin to slow them down.

We can get them to spin around every now and then. But most the time, they know where they're headed. Usually we are just trying to get them to alter their flight path a lil bit and buzz the decoys. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

For the most part, the only time you are gonna get them to come to a call is if you hear them making the same sound unless it is a loner. That is usually the case for both types of calls.

Like most have said, 90% of the time a woody is gonna go where it wants to go. Every now and then if you are close to their flight path you can get em to dip in the decoys. But for the most part you just need to be where they want to go, or be in the path of where they are going.

i've had some success calling them in but they don't respond very well. they are use to their usual routines they do every single day. if you are hunting an area that has very low pressure they might stray off their usual path to see what's going on. my suggestion is to do some heavy heavy scouting. that's the best way to load up on them suckers. hunt that spot every couple of weeks. these birds are smart and if you sit there every day waiting on them they will change their habits quickly.

In my opinion a woodie call is best for callin them after they lite and they swim to you. I have called em in flyin but just like everybody else says, scout hard and golden acorns dont hurt any either.

also, a good set of woody decoys like the GHG and a jerk line helps A LOT. that little bit of realism goes a long way
