I have always used mono but was thinking of trying some PowerPro 30lb braid. I use the same rods for river cats and salt water. Anyone have any reviews and is it worth the extra money???

i love braid for saltwater fishing, and some applications for bass fishing. its got great sensitivity and its nearly impossible to break. it has no stretch so that helps with better hookups. but if your using it for specks or topwater go to a lighter action rod. using a medium heavy action rod with braid actually makes the action more of a Heavy action rod. All of my redfish rods are spooled with braid and so are my topwater rods because on those long cast i dont want any stretch in my line on hooksets to help with a better hook up. so yes it is worth the extra money and most companys make a good line of braid. i always use power pro.

Whatever you do don't go too light cause that stuff is like thread...forget about untangling a backlash.

I love power pro, mainly because there is next to no stretch in it. I use it on most of my bass rods, it's kinda expensive for my catfish rods because i'm always breaking off and go through lots of line. If you can get over the price it's deff worth it in my opinion. Stay away from spiderwire fusion, its a joke. And imo Fireline wasnt nearly as strong as power pro.

I second the vote for Power Pro. I use it on all my bass rods as well as for redfish.

30# test is about right, definitely not overkill IMO.

Picked me up a couple spools of the 30lb PowerPro and put it on my spinning rods. What kind of knots are you using? I usually just tie a palomar knot. It does cast pretty good.

palomar works for me. some people like a double palomar. whatever you do don't tie a cench knot, that shit will back right out on ya.

I am a palomar man, wouldn't do it any other way. I use braided for everything except crankbaits (30lbs test monofilimant or if you can afford it flourocarbon) and topwater (usually 15-20lbstest)
