Post subject: | upper ouachita questions |
i'm wanting to hunt the upper ouachita nwr a good bit this year and i've been looking a lot this off season at maps on the internet and google earth and ive rode around a few times and have some questions. First off, just what exactly is off limits to hunting? The map shows the area east of the river and north of the molicy unit being the rest zone...is that the only rest area? I know an older man that used to be a game warden back in the day and he said he thought he remembered part of it on the west side of the river being no hunting too? He also mentioned the "blue line"....what side of the river/somewhat general area is that? Where do you put in at? The old alabama landing? I know that you have to pay at some of the boat ramps. Last thing is I know that last year part of the levee separating the molicy unit got washed away but I've heard that you can't drive through there but instead you have to drag over the levee? Is this right or can you go through? Any help is appreciated...i dont wanna know anyones honey hole or anything like that, just gettin my bearings down before I start doing a lot of scouting so I won't waste too much time. Thanks |

Try calling whoever is in charge of managing that area. There should be a game warden or more than one who is pretty much designated to that area. You can get they're phone number and call them. I've talked to a bunch of stupid one's who did not even know the law's on the lake they were working, but you should be able to figure out what you need. May have to make more than one call. Good luck. |

we have a camp right up the river from alabama landing, if the river is out of the banks a few feet you have to go to felsenthal and put in. Stay south of the pipeline in the mollicy unit and youll be fine just look at the map really good before you go. The ducks tend to stay above the pipeline right across the river from our camp and thats all you can hear is ducks and geese all day. The state blew holes in the levee on mollicy so the bayous can retake their course and it will be the same depth as the rest of the river. You can usually do alright in oxbows and big holes in the timber. PM me if you have any questions or maybe wanna stay at the camp one weekend and hunt. |
