Post The Wax
Is there a public launch at the end of state rd. 317 in Burns that could be used to access the Wax? Thanks

Yes
You have to run throught the bay and around point chevell (sp)
Water is very shallow and get very rough
It is not something you want to do if you do not know the area
you are better off launching in calumet and running the cut down

I have never been to the Wax, I was just looking for the shortest boat ride. It seems like with a stiff north wind the calumet cut would get pretty rough also. Thanks

I would not launch at Burns Point
were shallow water and it gets really rough
Been out there in a 22 foot bay boat and could not wait to get to land
The cut can get rough but I run it in by boat and never had problems
If you do launch at burns point do yourself a favor and program the coast gaurds number in your phone
Oh neverming no service out there

I don't fine the calumet gets to rough on a north wind. Its the south wind you have to worry about. I just ride the bank.

If you gonna run out of Burns, watch the weather and try do do it only if theres a northwind. Instead of going through Cheveruil, go back through Texaco and Horseshoe bayou, hit Little Beach Bayou. You will come out on the delta. This is where it gets tricky if you haven't been there much. Take the second cut to the left and it will take you to the channel the campground is on. When you get to that channel take another left and it will take you to the campground. Better map it out on the gps and follow that. Be careful with that also because some of the software wont show the flats exactly because of the time of year the different resolutions were taken. If you look in Google earth I believe it was, you wont see the second cut I'm talking about until you zoom in enough.

No, I didn't go out there yet. I may go after the Christmas holidays. Thanks for the tips guys, I think I'll just run the cut as suggested. Any reports from this past weekend?

I need to learn the area. A guy at work hunts the wax and has a house boat out there. Said they have been doing really well.

How long of a run would it be from Calumet to the delta figuring 30-35 mph? I never put down there to make that run. I either put down at Burns Point or Cabot.

Post Re: The Wax
25 or so years ago I use to hunt the wax. From N.O. I took 90 through Morgan City, then to a high bridge, down to the right of the bridge to launch. It was a real steep launch. What is that launch called. It was a 45 min run in a 20 foot reno with a 65 hp tiller. Is that launch still there. MY 20x60 with hard blind is just a 20 mph boat right now, is there a shorter way to get down there. There were 3 Islands down there they would let you camp on is that still permitted?
I hunt righ out of the boat so I don't want to get mixed up with any paddle in only areas.

Finally made a trip to the Wax last Friday. I went down the calumet as suggested. Left the launch about 9:30 a.m. and hunted till 3:00 p.m. Ended up with 4 mallards and 1 redhead. Hope to make it back out before the season closes. Thanks for the tips!
