Looks like I'm left with the old Mossberg for this season. What are some choke/shot combinations that are working well for anybody shooting with one? |

I have an older 500 with 28" barrel - I like the 2" extended IC choke on it... 2 - 3 - 4 shot in 3" over decs - start with 4s at dawn and transition later for longer shots 1 shot in 2 3/4" - for woodies and greenheads in the tight timber Retired it when I took up my 30" BPS - but it will be in the blind on opening morning in my buddies 18 year old son's hands.... If you ever retire it keep it as a spare - JIC - they are rugged and reliable enough for a lifetime of use - mine is bout 30 years old... |

I have had mine for 10 years and I couldn't ask any more of it. It has been my turkey gun, but I'm just taking up duck hunting so it's coming along. |

What barrel length - to me that has a lot to do with choke choice ??? |

28in. It has a full choke in it now. It's not an extended choke, sits flush with the ported barrel. |

Steel paterns different than lead - and bigger steel shot paterns different than smaller steel shot Might want to step off 30 yards and shoot some paper with your chosen ammo A choke made for lead as modified - paterns more like full in steel - which is why I run the IC choke cause on #4 its pretty open - #2 steel it paterns more like modified and for geese with BBB and up it paterns more like full.... But opinions and guns vary - thats what I've seen on my guns... |

What? I don't sell the chokes, that's actually what I'm shooting now. I'm getting like Terry-yall starting to hurt my feelings. |

That choke looks huge, I'm pretty sure that would make my 28in barrel a musket. How will it affect the pattern with a ported barrel and a ported choke? |

quackerwhacker, I'm not shootin a ported barrel, but I'd imagine it would make it even better. I will say this, if you're a good shot, this will make you look like a pro, but if you're only a so-so shot, you'll look like you're firing blanks. It's definitely not an up close & in your face choke tube. lol Giga, call me & I take care of that $90 for ya. Clay, now I'm whoring. |

Yeah, the full choke I'm shooting now did great on the geese a couple weeks ago but I don't want to just have feathers left when I shoot duck. |

They also have other waterfowl chokes. The non ported chokes are $50 & come in every pattern you could ask for. Sticks out the end of the barrel about 3/4". From their home page, click on the "Order Online" button at the top right of the page. Not trying to push them on you, but not very many people know about em so I was telling you. |

Just an update: I went with a Prrimos Dead Zone choke for shooting over decoys. Patterned Hevi-Metal #3's, Black Cloud #2's, and Hypersonic #2's. The Hevi-Metal won by far and on opening weekend we put the hammer down on some ducks. Got 33 the first morning. Needless to say, I was satisfied. Preciate all the help guys. |
