I'm thinking about buying a native 14.5 for hunting and fishing the bays this summer. Anybody else ever tried one?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354898328.617025.jpg

A guy I know, thats all he hunts out of. He even has a long tail mounted on the back. I'll try to get a pic of it.

Get used to working your ass off, and being extremely unstable! I used a kayak, and canoe last season, and can say I didint enjoy it. But I didint have a choice..

Thanks Angler, that site is actually where I first read about the native ultimate. It is a tunnel hull design and the one I tested was very stable, even when standing.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354918402.794548.jpg

Some of the best hunting areas in Florida are no motor, paddle in only. Lots of people use them here.

Been using them for years. They work great. I've got an ultimate 12 currently.

I'm looking forward to it. We have some good spots that divers work year after year. I'm hoping to try it layout style there and the to slip back into some little water off the river. Florida looks like it'd be fun to hunt. We fish Port St Joe every year.

Carey, you ever try layout style or do you just lose it for getting to your spot?

Yeah I sold my boat and my refuge runner this fall to pay for our wedding. Now I'm high and dry. The misses claims a new boat will be in the garage by summer, but that isn't helping much now.

I've been looking into the Kayaks for fishing.

For you guys that are using them, what is the benifit to a kayak over just using a pirouge?

sorry for the hijack.

Well social status is real high on my priority list, just before pedicures and getting my eyebrows waxed.

Mine is a Jackson Coosa. It's designed for rivers, ponds and sand pits. It's a set on top, type. Great
for fishing or hunting.

Not designed for ocean or large open water-against wind and waves.

Absolutely try the one you intend to buy, in the water type you intend to use it in.

Always wear a life jacket in them.

You ever shoot out of that coosa, Silver?

hunted from a Paw paws pirogue the last 3 seasons until this year. Paddled it 2miles one way to get my spot, pulled it into grass covered it w/ some raffia hanks and layed in bottem of it like a layout boat. birds would drop right on top of me. It can carry a pretty good load too. Kayaks are a great option too for skinny water.

Yeah the one I was looking at is pretty similar to a pirogue, but more of a tunnel hull and 14.5 ft long.

I have the ultimate 12 and it is a great all purpose kayak. I tested it with my dog , and this baby is stable due to its' design. I would go give one a try. I went with the smaller size to keep the weight down for the dragging and carrying through the marsh. But I am not a big fisherman, so it is a give and take.

That's what I'm looking for! The guy sold the 14.5 before I could get there so it's back on the hunt for one.

All i use is a 12 ft Critter gitter pirogue. Had a great time last weekend sneaking up on some woodies. You can't beat a pirogue hunt. Yeah its work but i say its damned worth it.

SP,,, I think the gator glide is a great idea, but is it ok to paint over it? Seems like you defeat the purpose?
