How are yall carrying your handgun in your boat. I have a concealed IWB holster, I have a tactical side of the leg holder. I find that when crabbin they both will get wet though not much, and the tactical leg holster sometimes in the way. I was thinking of getting a holster that fits under the arm for either concealed or maybe even open carry. If I do, it would be for a Glock 17. I also carry a Sig .380 but may just use that for IWB. Any of you guys wear an under the arm holster for certain situations. Is it comfortable. I think this would work good for the boat. In the summer time, I like to wear button down short sleeve shirts unbuttoned down low so I can let the air get through them and still have some protection from the sun, and not gross out anyone that sees me. An over the shirt underarm harness rig may take that out of the way, unless I wear it under the shirt, but it would have to be soft. |

I carry in a Safariland ALS OWB holster. Not going to hurt that Glock to get wet. |

Works fine for concealed carry with an untucked shirt over the top of it, and keeps your gun secure an out of the way while you're in the boat. I don't think you'll like a shoulder holster. Too hot and cumbersome. |

They are what I consider to be disposable but for 10 or 15 bucks it works just fine for what I need. And my bad, you're right about what he's asking. Thank you..... |

I don't think you'd be happy with that either. Too much material on your body, it will get hot quick. Kydex has good retention, cannot be torn up, and doesn't hold in moisture. I know $80 seems like a lot of money, but it's quality gear that works good and lasts a long time. |

Just like an expensive pair of sunglasses, a pistol just seems like something else that I need to go swiming for when it falls off. I usually carry at least 1 AR15 and/or a mini 14, and a couple 22's, and havent had a need for anything else........yet.

Blackhawk serpa paddle with whatever Glock is your preference. Glocks don't rust and are awesome in marine environments. An AR7 is a cool boat gun to have aside from a handgun. Good to smoke nutra rats with. |

I've owned most of the big name holsters and also carry a shield in .40. I have gone to a holster by a guy local to me and haven't looked back. Hand made, $40 and super comfortable. Ambidextrous, and will hold just about whatever pistol you want to carry in it. I primarily carry my Shield but I have carried an XDm 3.8, and 4.5, and full size 1911, and a Steyer M9-A1.... In the same holster. I have two in black and one in brown now but still only really carry one..... Sorry for the thread jack OP. In the boat I usually either carry one of these or an ankle holster. I actually carry the Shield and ankle holster at work also... |

I've been looking at the High Noon Hidden Impact for the Shield. Would carrying more towards the rear of your hip keep the gun out the way and drier? Outside the waist holster may not be bad either if you don't care about concealing. |

The one I have pictured is IWB but he also builds similar OWB setups. I have one I use at the range pretty often. Main reason I went with all leather is because I HATE kydex... Too rough on your gun and it doesn't give with wear and your movement. |

I put my .380 in my pocket..... front or back it doesn't matter it's just a little bigger than a box of cigarettes..... you could also rig a holster to your grab bar..... or get an old pump shotgun and throw it in the bottom of the boat..... |

The active retention is why I use the Safariland ALS. I have a few Serpas but I don't like the trigger finger release. The Safariland uses a thumb release. And the inside is lined to keep from scuffing your gun. Comes with a belt or paddle attachment. |

I personally don't like not having my trigger guard completely covered. With that said, to each his own. As long as your gun doesn't AD and injure or kill me or mine, I could care less. |

If you are crabbing in an area that is too damn dangerous to put the gun in a drybox or put it down on the seat......i would suggest mounting a gattlin gun on the bow. If u think u must have a pistol on u while crabbing then u gotta be shaking someone elses cages. They gonna get u in the crosshairs and shoot your ass from far away....that pistol aint gonna do u no good anyway. I would suggest u pick up your pistols and go buy yourself a few doz. crabs before u get yourself killed. that poor crabber tryin to feed his family. |
