First one I've ever killed. It was hot as all get out. Gonna do a euro mount with the velvet on. |

Damn good job, Jim! Get those horns in the freezer quick, they'll rot and you won't be able to do chit wit 'em. I killed an eight a couple years ago that I planned to do the same thing. I don't have a clue how to deal with 'em but they go to hell fast. I'm curious how to preserve the velvet... |

I watched a YouTube video yesterday that showed putting the rack in a box with borax for 6-8 weeks but that won't work with the head still on. I think they inject with formaldehyde. I've done several euros but gonna let somebody in the know do this one to preserve the velvet. |

Thx guys. Would have been after the teal but both my buds were out of town and plus we haven't seen the first one. Gonna give them at least a few weeks off. Probably won't hunt much over there again until November. It's literally right across the road from the house. |

Glad you found him will! He's a nice one. Was the velvet lighter than that when you shot him? Just asking to see if the heat or the time he was out there affected it. |

He was toast. Velvet would rub off with your fingers. Actually only went 150yards with a straight up bad, bad, bad gut shot using a Dead Ringer Freak Nasty. I'll shoot another next weekend and try to actually hit the goodies... Haha. I'd felt better saying I missed than that. But it happens if you shoot at enough of them... Bad terrain for tracking, wish I knew someone close with a good dog because I got within 20 feet but could not find it in the Holly. |
