Post App For Logging Hunts
What app do you guys use for logging hunts? I just got a new phone recently, and used the Duck Commander app. It worked really for what I did with it, but will not let me download it to the new phone. We've got some flooded timbers here that we walk through, but it's very easy to get turned around in, so I need to be able to drop a pin and save the location of the boat and save the location of the hunting location. Of course, I would like it to be free.

Google Earth (free) or Navionics ($10)

One thing to remember when using your phone to find a spot at night is that it will not work right if fog rolls in. Been there more than once.

Gps essentials. It interfaces with Google maps. The only downside is, is that it doesn't have under water countours. You can track save save paths, you can make spots, retrace tracks, navigate to spots with heading and interactive compass. Been using it since android phones came out. Interfacing with Google maps and using tracks you can navigate in fog assuming water levels haven't changed
Its free, the only limitation it has is not having underwater contours like navionics, but at the same time you don't really need it for hunting, if you made a safe recorded trip and you can match it on your way back

It's a one time deal. Its got gps, can mark trails and way points, and gives really accurate bottom contours for most big lakes in the U.S.

I should have rephrased. *if you don't have any water obstructions. I wouldn't do it if you were hunting trees or any where that has hard a
Stuff. In the marsh I hunt until it freezes there's not any hard stuff

Claycounty, we were in a tournament and it was completely open water other than the one bridge that I thought to slow down for last second. It's not all that uncommon in tournaments to run in fog using your gps, I don't do it nearly as fast anymore but you have to get to where you're going when there is money on the line.. Plus I had run under it at least 7 times and had it well marked. Outside of the bridge the water was wide open and you can feel when you're coming up on another boat from the wake so you don't have to worry about that too much, its really not quite as crazy as it sounds to be. lol

Unless the boats coming from head on. Not smart IMO unless you do have radar on the boat.
