This thing was like getting a new boat! I had a long wait, but I finally got it! I'm going to give a shameless plug to a fella named Jamie Watts for making this call set for me! The sounds are awesome! Single and double reed inserts. It was extremely affordable...:he may have gone up on his prices since I ordered mine...that was about 6 months ago. But, he's a working class stiff doing this stuff strictly on the side when he's not out chasing turnarounds. So, I'm sure his orders stack up. I'll say this, the sound and the looks was worth the wait! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well.... I gotta ask... What did it set ya back? It looks like a very well made piece. Any pics of the finish on the inside? Acrylic I assume?? |

Yes...acrylic. If I told you, you would accuse me of lying! Not sure if I got the "refinery guy" discount or not...but, the guy that introduced me to him paid the same. I'm not pulling your leg when I say I paid somewhere around $45-$50 to my door. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's a good price and a good looking call. I just picked up an acrylic call today from a call maker here in Monroe for 65 at the national hunting and fishing day expo. Hell of a lot cheaper than my last RNT lol |

SETX, not sure of he does wood. I would have to guess, yes. A co-worker introduced me to him as I was going around bidding farewell to folks with my last job. Coworker had a call similar to this with the dual inserts...just different blank colors. Blew it and loved the tone. He showed me a catalog of acrylic blank color options, I picked this one, gave him the $$ and my address. 6 months later, here it is. The guy is a Safety Professional and was working a turnaround we had going. I think he only builds them when he is at home. Like I said, he probably gets a lot of orders stacking up while on the road...then has to build them when he gets home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I do know he turns down the blanks and inserts. Sounds better than my Daisy Cutter. The single reed insert handles a wide range of volume without getting pitchy. The double reed insert won't handle low wind...but, doesn't take much to get it to talk. Both the double and the single are really hard to tell the difference in tone. Both handle back pressure really great giving that awesome rise/drop. Honestly, the single will still blow with a lot of wind and doesn't get pitchy at all. I'd compare the tone with my old school Olt...but has a better temperament for wind changes and not getting pitchy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

All the customs I've ever gotten were 100+. Does that guy distribute his info? It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

Custom call builders out there all over offering affordable prices. I searched the hashtag #customcall on IG and saw several offering calls from $50-$75 in wood and acrylic. His number is on the box. His name is Jamie Watts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They're so cheap because they have an Echo poly-insert in them. You can buy those inserts all day long for $6. |

Whatever it is, it looks and sounds great. I looked at Echo's site and saw the poly inserts. These pretty much look just like them. If they blow out, I'll spend $6.00 and get a new one! LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How can the reeds blow out? They are all made out of the same Mylar material. All that wears out is the cork or the rubber stop in the insert. Get you some new cork and keep rolling. Don't listen to these people talking about "semi-custom calls". If you like how it looks and like how it sounds then you got a hell of a deal. That insert sounds good and just keep some cork on hand. Now go get it all scratched up and full of mud and kill ducks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like to change reeds in my calls every season. My Main Street call, the reed sometimes cracks in it but no biggie. Just cut another one and tune it up. Corks on the other hand, need to be changed often. Not such a big deal on hunting calls but comp calls need to be changed every few weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Post subject: | Re: New Call Arrived! |
I agree with you. I'm just saying that nothing about that insert "makes reeds wear out". The standard life span of reeds and cork are the same as any other duck call. Depending on how they are tuned etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Post subject: | Re: New Call Arrived! |
That is typically just from the cork wearing out. I would bet that the reeds are still fine and 2$ of cork would have your calls as good as new. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not busting balls here, but it's a "custom" barrel, which most anyone can turn, with a 6$ poly insert. The insert is the part that 90%of people can't make. Jigs are expensive and most of the big guys have a patent on theirs. I have a friend who makes custom calls (fowlfield calls) and he's the real deal. Kinda irks me for someone to sell barrels with someone's insert as "custom", for a high price. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |

Post subject: | Re: New Call Arrived! |
I build my own start to finish, and I think the word "semi" ought to be added for those that buy inserts and don't make their own. However, I don't get irked by the fact people dont. Here's why: someone decided they wanted to go through the effort of learning to turn the barrel, then market to sell. If the buyer is satisfied with what they get, it doesn't matter what the maker or turner calls it. Those of us that go the extra effort of making our tone boards and tuning them specifically to the customer think that someone that just makes a specific board and sends that out regardless of the person that'll be blowing it isn't truly living up to the word custom, either. That's like a boat builder saying they build custom boats, but having a design they use, and not letting you have input about how long the deck is, or how the chine is done, etc. So custom calls are what they are. Someone turning some wood or plastic or acrylic. Regardless of the rest of the effort they may or may not do, they've gone through the effort to appeal to their target customer. It's up to the customer to set the standard of what they want and consider custom. I've got no issue with the customer deciding. |
