This gizzard came out of a mallard, if that matters. But I'm curious to know where some of this gravel or sandy stuff would come from?
On the Gulf coast beaches?
Maybe shallow lakes?
Also notice the #1 or #2 size shot in there tooImageUploadedByTapatalk1447642256.785082.jpg

Probably either river or lake beds. Beach sand is usually uniform in makeup and shape/size since it get worked by the surf over and over.

Depending on how far that duck flew recently, that sand could be from a river in Kansas or who knows where.

Interesting there was a pellet in there.

That pellet is why we now use steel. They pick them up, and the old lead shot would kill them

I won't argue that, woodie. Pretty good odds.

I agree with you and woodie both. There was some wildlife study done, though, and something about the waterfowl would die from lead poisoning, then the birds of prey would eat the carcass and die from lead poisoning, and then a bigger bird or animal would too, blahblahblah. And politics won.

I've been duck hunting for the better part of my 55 years. Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois and Tennessee. Up until last year, I had never seen a gizzard with shot in it. I,ve dressed four in the last two seasons.
