Title says it all really. A fornight ago we dropped the light on 4 Red stags on a hill between a farmers swede crop and the bush edge the other night. They took off for bush so we gunned it down the road towards them. Said to my mate you want them he says you've get the AR have at em. So got to within 70 yards of them and they had lined up filling into the trees and had maybe 20 yards till they were gone. I'm out the door and put off 4 rounds and got 2 rounds onto the back stag and they were well not the ideal shot placements but when its going down fast what do ya do. We hit the bush with the dog and found heaps of blood and we're all but firing up the bbq....but followed for a mile under bush and out onto a road in the dark and had to give up on it. So it annoyed me for the rest of the night and I went back in the morning and found where I left off and followed it for another mile on the blood trail then lost it.Guess for the amount of deer we've gotten lately it was bound to happen. |

It Always has bothered me to lose one and I'll not let up till I'm sure the sign has played out, even to the point of borrowing a top notch dog. It's not just the waste but the loss of the food that gets me. I've found over the years though that when ya get into the "mile" neighborhood (really less than that) there's not much chance of finding them because they've stopped leaking and are prolly gonna survive... Happy huntin' WBS! You're pics and stories keep us going till ours kicks off! |

I hear you... My buddy shot a doe during archery and made what he thought was a solid hit. It jumped , ran in tight circles, fell and kicked, then it got up and hauled ass. He never found it. About 7 weeks after that he shot a does during rifle season. The processor called him and told him he found a fully intact arrow inside the doe. It was my buddies arrow. Tough critters they are.
