In my SeaArk I use a Lowrance 4 hdi, small but has built in gps antenna. The only thing is its maps, you have to buy their map card to get good details in most lakes. I haven't used it for where I go in my mud boat. other than that it displays all the goodies like temp, depth, speed, distance traveled, and time.

I have a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI in mine. I love the downs an feature over traditional sonar. As far as GPS goes. It's accurate but not detailed. I hope Santa finds it fit to leave a map card under the tree in a couple weeks

BTW Bass Pro shops had those on sale last year for less than $200.

Yea, I was thinking a boat based was best- don't do a ton of fishing, mostly hunting and frogging.

Just wanted something to gpd, and stuff!

Thanks!

I've got a Garmin 531S. Its been one of the best additions i've added to my rig.

Funny thing when the water is high, you see your boat on land moving through the woods way off the river.

Garmin 741 is what I have been using. It wasn't cheap, but it has been very useful for marsh trips in unfamiliar territory. I'd pay that money for another one again in a heartbeat!

Are you guys just using the units for their GPS feature or do you have the transducers installed. Asking specifically because I wanted to see how the transducers were rigged on a mud boat. I have an Elite 4 DSI on my jon boat that I really like. Running the Lake Insight Pro V14 map card.

I built a sliding mount for mine using one of my spud holes and grey pvc. Pull it up and pin it so you don't drag it off or drop it when you're fishing. So far it's worked real well. There are lots of pics of different mounts posted if you search around a bit.

I use an alumaducer but mostly use just for depth.

If you get a humming bird unit you will be able to get a Louisiana card where you have the ability overlay satilite images Instead of line maos so you can see your position and surroundings.

Anyone have something rigged up for a GatorTail with a hunt deck with spud pole kit? I'd like to see some of the mounting solutions you fellas have come up with.

I'm running a cheap black & white Lowrance mostly for the GPS. Using a Ram mount on my grab handle and power from 12volt outlet right at the grab handle base. For the transducer I used an aluminum bracket that hooks over the transom and is secured with a jam nut. Easy to remove if you get in rough country. I found it on the internet. If you're really interested PM me and I'll take a pic.

I've got a Helix five. This is how I mount my transducer. It's a RAM kayak mount. During the summer for fishing I leave it down, if I go in the marsh I can flip it up on the hunt deck. During hunting season I take it off and coil the wires up with the transducer and leave it in the hunt deck.

I did the same thing, but I epoxied another ram mount down by the transducer that grips the kayak rod. It stops the transducer from moving and keeps it working at speed.

I realize this is an old thread but I just added a GPS/Sonar unit to my boat. After a lot of research I feel like one of the best bangs for the buck right now is the Garmin ecoMap 73SV. The new models are out and the old ones are selling for 500.00 shipped with transducer. They have a 7" color screen, side view, down view, GPS with 17,000 pre-loaded maps, etc.. Good bang for the buck unit..
