Looking to get a pair. Any advice on a particular pair to get or avoid?

Get the boots that zip up, the lace ups are a pain.

I tried on a pair of Rocky side zips (no laces) that felt comfy. The LaCrosse lace ups with side zips had the bad pressure points around the ankles. My sister carries Rocky, Irish setter, and Ariat in her store. I am going to try the Irish setters and Ariats before I definitively go with the Rockys.

I currently have a pair of Rocky pull ons, no zips or laces, and they are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. Been having them about 5yrs and hope to find another pair just like it once they wear out completely.

I've done a couple different sets of snake chaps, and been popped 3 times. It's a creepy sound the first couple times until you realize you can trust them. Never done the boots, as they were never very comfortable when I tried them on. One of the woods crew I worked with was fine with his, and I know of at least one story (without a witness, they're all just stories lol) where he got popped twice by the same snake with no issues.

I ran a bit over 800 yards through the woods when my logging tape broke. Sounded just like a rattlesnake in my back pocket or chasing me. The snake popping the chaps wasn't nearly as upsetting...lol

I've been buying the red head zip ups every other year. Comfortable and waterproof but only last about 2 years putting hard miles on them.

Good info. Thanks

I had a buddy get popped in the ass by a moccasin. Luckily it was a small one and his waders were 5mm. Could see 2 fang marks but it never went all the way through. Very lucky for my friend because none of us were going to suck the poison out

Gonna give the Rocky Retractions a shot. With the family discount at my sisters store I can get a good deal on them.

My muck boots are snake proof and I can walk miles in them with no problems. I have had rocky and other brands and these are by far the best IMO

La Crosse snake boots and also use La Crosse rubber Grange boots. Light and durable.

I tried the LaCrosse lace ups/side zip and they were not very comfortable in my opinion. They had alot of pressure and pinch points in the ankle area. I've had their waterboots in the past and liked them.

Lacrosse went to outsourcing and like others, quality issues resulted. The two Rocky brand boots I purchased broke within two seasons of hard use- the sole just broke apart on one; the other had major split seams...the one Redhead lace up pair suffered sole coming apart and leaked the second time out; I mean they will all probably leak after a few seasons...can't afford the Chippewa/ Russell/ Danner brands, would try those if I could swing it. Like shotguns, boots must fit you. My Lacrosse are the HD coil scent model from five years ago and they are holding their own, a little bit of water seepage but that is to be expected. They are light, they breathe, and provide good traction wet/dry. Whatever you get, store them in a cool area, the heat down here damages if you leave them elsewhere. The rubber Grange are not leaking, also five years old.

I tried on a pair of Ariat snake boots at my sisters store. They were well made, but would probably cause many a blister until they were properly broken in. I tried the Rocky Retractions out. They were pretty comfy. She is ordering a pair that are a bit wider for me to try before I buy.
