Post South Louisiana public duck hunt
I'll be headed to the in-laws for xmas and wanted to get the rundown on duck hunting public land in between baton rouge and houma. I'm not looking for anyone's spot and I'll do my on scouting. I just want to make sure that I'm not on someone else's land/lease or a protected area. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, man...we are fresh out of ducks in Louisiana.

JK....only a couple options between BR and Houma. Lake Boeuf and Maurepas WMA's. Check LDWF website. They have an interactive map of all the WMA's.

The Boeuf lake itself is not WMA but it is considered public hunting.

If you head that way be sure to bring along your flak jacket.

Make sure to bring your teal tags if you're hunting a WMA! They strict on that!

Thanks for the help. Would it be worth the longer drive to go south of Houma?

Depends on how the season goes South of Houma can be very hit or miss. If you are game for shooting coots and only going to be in the area a short time Lake Boeuf would be the way to go. It would probably be something different for you, shooting coots mostly on the wing, and if there's a good bit of people hunting that day it becomes similar to a dove hunt.

I don't have any experience hunting Maurepas.

It also depends on what your definition of south of houma is.
I agree with above too, lake Beouff is a lot of fun. But can be dangerous.

Thanks I'm hoping we have fun. We definitely won't be there opening day. Hell we are used to hunting South Carolina coast and if we can have the chance to shoot more than woodies and coots ill be happy.

I live right by lake bouf normally loaded with coots.
On any given day the lake can be filled with ducks as well. Fished a few days ago
And seen 150-200 teal.
There is the Pointauxchene WMA in Houma other then that mostly all
Land is leased/private land.
Goodluck.
