who cares, i sell all the belleymeat and filets. ![]() i usually just keep 'pockets' of meat in the head to eat for myself. best meat on the fish. those big old fish probly do have more toxins in them than the younger fish , especially in the big river systems the further south the worse. |

My doctor buddy said that when fish are tested for ?? they test the fat, skin and intestines along with what we would call the meat. Now who eats the fat, skin or intestines?? Most of the toxins are in the skin and fat. The numbers he said are not just meat only. As DA mentioned I'm sure the big ol cats have way more than a small cat. I have a very good fish business due to the fact that I cut off all of the red and fat on the meat. Sure I lose alot of weight but I have zero fish in my freezer. I speak to the Ohio River biologist on a regular basis and will ask him if there is any numbers on the meat and report back later. I helped some biologist last spring catch hybrid stripers and they were cutting the guts out for testing. I think they were keeping the livers. I will see them again and ask them for some info. My customers love those big ol back staps off them blues and I have some customers that want flathead bellys only. Our water temp is still in the 35 degree range and fishing is very slow right now. we grappel for the flat heads under the rocks here. the season wont be until about june. they usally run 7-40 lbs. the belly meat is my favorite. i do cut the red meat off and squeez and rinse the fat out of all the meat. i know these are bedding fish. but we dont or cant get to 99 % of the fish. dont think we are hurting the population much since they seem to get bigger on the average every year. |
