Ok i have been watching my hunting partner not eat all of her food for the past couple of days and its starting to worry me..i talked to my buddy today and he said that his lab isn'[t eating all its food either.

So i'm thinking its from the heat, i have changed her water out every day giving her fresh cool water and even soaking her down with the water hose and letting her lay in the laundry room to cool her off. She is a black lab so i am watching her extra close in these hott temps.

I bought a kennel cover from cabelas to put some shade over her during the hott summer days which is helping out tremendously. But as far as the eating goes do you guys think its from the heat or is there something else i need to check into

i am going to go ahead and make her an appointment for the vett's office to see whats up cause she is my partner that fetches those birds at hundreds of yards and in that cold freakin water, the least i could do is keep her healthy!

Heat.

dogs will eat less in the summer heat, but a dog that don't eat at all for several days needs to be taken to a vet immediately.

My lab has never not eaten all of her food. I think she would eat the whole container if she could.

So what ya'll are saying is that she'll be ok for now! This is the fisrt dog that i have had that has done that!

All dogs are different....but most dogs will not eat as fast or as much in the summer months due to the heat. Dogs use more energy in the winter months due to their bodies trying to keep warm.

My lab will gobble down every bit of food in his bowl as if he hadn't ate in days during the cooler months. Once it starts getting hot he slows down quite a bit and will sometimes just walk up and sniff it and then walk away.

Just let her hang out inside during the day. How would you like to be kept outside in this heat with all that fur?

Or you could get her a fan with a water mister on it.

Just remember.....when that dog gets hungry...he'll eat. Whether it be the Purina dog chow that you have provided or your wifes favorite slippers......he'll eat when he's ready.

Get a kiddie pool and put it under the cover you bought. That was she can cool off during the day. Also a fan isn't a bad idea. The winds aren't blowing much and a fan would help circulate the air.
