 Traveling dogs
Everytime I take my dog out of town to go hunting she doesn't want to eat or drink. She litterally ate 10 bites of food all weekend last weekend. She's a five year old and been hunting all over since she was old enough. She eats fine at home, this is only when were out of town. Any thoughts?

 Re: Traveling dogs
Do you always leave food out for your dog? Or do you keep the food out of the bowl? I've never had an issue with either of my dogs eating, drinking in new places... I feed them 2x / day so there always looking for food come 7AM or 5PM I would agree with everyone else w/ stress / anxiety they do make doggy valium

 Re: Traveling dogs
the stress and anxiety are good reasons for your dog not eating but she will eat when she is hungry

 Re: Traveling dogs
Is she crated out of town but free to run the yard at home? Maybe she is scared about going in the crate.
Can you keep her routine close to the same out of town? My dog gets fed at the same time and then has his bathroom break at about the same time at my house, in the back of my truck, in a hotel room or a someone elses house.
but
...she will eat if she gets hungry enough.

 Re: Traveling dogs
Dogs are creatures of habit. They are happiest when they are one the same ruitine every day. My guess would be is she is used to living a normal ruitine and when you take her away from it; it's a shock to her.
One way to help with this problem is make her daily ruitine as close to what she'll have on the trip. For example before i get ready to make a long road trip with my dogs to say the Grand or Master test. I will make the dogs live in the truck a week or 2 before the test. This makes their ruitine to be fed on the truck, sleep on the truck, and work out of the truck. That way when i get to the test it's just the same thing they've always done.
