Retrieving a dummy
My puppy is nine months old. He will retrieve anything. Also at a very high rate of speed. Did not really force fetch him. He will pick up or bring anything to you. But when he brings the dummies back, he wants to pop them in his mouth. If I make him sit, and hold a dummy, and tell him fetch, he'll just sit there with it. But if he's coming back on a retrieve he's popping it in his mouth. Any ideas or tricks would be so helpful. Thank you

Re: Retrieving a dummy
Get a dokken. They don't pop. Or canvas for out of water work. He's doing it because the plastic bumpers have the water bottle effect to pups, they like the sound it makes cuz they feel like they're tearing something up. Dogs won't head shake with a dokken either because the heads are hard and beat the shit out of the dog if they head shake
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Re: Retrieving a dummy
Well you haven't properly taught the fetch command (force) so how can you command him to do something he hasn't been taught. Force fetch and all aspects that go with it (force to pile, walking fetch, water) are all the hub for the rest of anything you are trying to teach in my opinion . A good ff program will put you miles ahead of where you are now

I think jb is spot on with what he said. I just recommend the different dummys for the fact your dog is popping bumpers

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Dokkens- ... 111&rid=20If you goose hunt at all I'd recommend getting the dokken goose. That's about as close to a real goose as you can get without having a dead goose. It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

I got one of those, he loves tearing it up. He shakes it also. I think he hates it the most.

Re: Retrieving a dummy
Also a bumper or dokken is not a toy. That's what tennis balls are for My dog knows it's work time when a bumper comes out and he gets down to business. A tennis ball he knows it's play time

Re: Retrieving a dummy
My dog has all of a sudden gotten lazy as hell and half asses 75% of his retrieves. Getting very discouraged by how soft he is.

Wish mine had a fraction of the heart and drive Mucknaked's dog has. That dog is like a squirrel on amphetamines .
