I think Sadie has major allergy issues. I recently started both my dogs on flea medicine (topical), Aimee got into some and I found a few on her so I started them both for the summer... Almost impossible to see them on Sadie (she's black) so I gave them both flea bath (shampoo). Well my parents kept the dogs over the weekend and I pick them up Sunday. I noticed Sadie has a slight rash and in areas her skin looks to be actually peeling near her arm pits etc... She's not scratching at it or anything but I was concerned when I started to pet her and felt it... Anything I can give her? Benadryl? The skin looks to be okay under wear its peeling, its not raw so I'm thinking its on the tail end of an allergic reaction... Anyone else have issues like this? She does have a lot of dandruff at times so I'm thinking its a skin issue.

You can give her benadryl for sure. Vet said they can take a full size tablet. Actually said its not as potent to a dog as it is for a human. Mine has skin issues too, and I was trying to give her the kiddie stuff. Her skin gets a lil pink sometimes, and her eyes swell. Used to help a lot but not so much anymore for some reason. I just try to keep her clean.

Sadie lives indoors. But she gets almost like a heat rash or splotches all over her belly legs etc I guess I need to be more proactive about it and learn to notice it & give her medicine before it turns into a peeling issue... Just nasty!

That sux. Mine lives inside too, but she loves to go roll around in the grass and dirt when she goes outside. Especially when its hot out which makes it even worse, cuz it kicks up all the dust and dry dirt right in her face. Maybe she's an addict and thats what she has to do to get her fix.

I had a lab that developed the same symptoms as yours after topical flea treatment and a flea bath. I went through alot of different home remidies and crap. Here's what worked. Skin and coat oil added to food, and I started using capstar and program orals to treat the fleas.

If you have a Petco near ya go look at the Natural Balance Potato and Fish formula. That's what I recommend to my customers with dogs that have high allergy issues. I have my lab on that during the spring and summer. during hunting season i switch her to their AMP formula which is a high energy food. also, i give my dog the Missing Link supplement. really awesome stuff high in omega fatty acids. her coat never looked better and i haven't had any issues with her allergies since the switch.
