My friends use the bottoms of old lock-on to hang around trees. |

I have a tree stand for bow hunting I bought years ago. I use the base portion as a dog stand for Sadie when I hunt flooded timber. Works pretty good & keeps her dry. I put a camo padded mat over the metal to keep her comfortable. |

What about hunting in buck brush and marsh. Water usually about knee deep. I have an avery boat ladder. Haven't been happy with it. What about a free standing stand anybody got an idea on that? And thanks for your replies. |

The problem with a lock-on stand is that the only tree may not be growing in the right spot to set up in for you. Not to bad if you can remote release and handle your dog. I hunt cypress breaks where the diameter of a tree can change by 1' in just a couple inches of height making it almost impossible to get the platform level for the dog. You can buy similar stands to this one but do not get one without 4-leg independent adjustment. Those same trees can be 6" deep at the base and foot away it drops off to 2' or one leg sinks throwing things off. I can always get mine level and can place it exactly where I want it every time. No trees needed. I have set up in the wide open with just a piece of camo netting over the poles. This was my 90 lb lab. I have since cut it down for my 30 lb Boykin so it is even smaller now. For my boat I use my Avery Double Duty which is a boat/tree stand but it only works on the perfect tree. The opposing leg configuration is key to a super stable platform. |

Its just a 1" sq tube frame I welded up, 1/2" conduit legs, 4 eye bolts with nuts welded to frame and a piece of plastic peg board instead of wood. Covered in hydroturf scraps. Cheap to make. There is or was a company in AR making a similar design and its where I got the idea. But theirs cost around 200.00 I think. Mine cost me around $25.00. Would be great made of aluminum with sq tube legs and top. If you look at the tops of the legs in the pic with my lab and ducks you can see the difference in leg height and why a stand with independent leg adjustment makes the difference in getting it level. |

I made one out of PVC base and small 24"x24" plywood top. Covered it with padded camo. Only tool i needed was PVC cement and some screws & bolts. |
