i got off work yesterday and my room mate called and said that he was bringing my dog to the vet, his stomach was huge and he was barely walking. i thought it had something to do with a bird he ate this weekend, well i was wrong. brought him in the animal hospital last night and they said his protein level was low and so was his red blood cells, hes on heart guard and flea prevention but still has stomach worms, not bad but they are there. they said it was either that he was not getting protein or he has a bone marrow problem which can end up killing him. so they give me some meds to give him and send him home last night. well just a few minutes ago the dr/vet calls and says they want to do more blood tests friday to see if he is regaining blood cells, if not then they are going to have to give him a blood transfusion to see if he will start building up his strength again. he isnt digesting food, i put him on soft canned food last night and going to start his medicine today when i get home from work and hopefully it will get better. the dr said he should get better within a coupld of days but this was before they looked at the blood work. im not trying to sound like a lil girl but im sitting here at work worried sick about my lil buddy, yall just keep him in yalls prayers and keep your fingers crossed that he'll be aight. :|

its bloat man...it happens when the dog has too much to eat/dring and runs hard or something kina strenuous. lost my rot to it...the stomach twists 180 drgrees and shuts off blood flow to the spleen and stomach. if not treated rather quickly unfortunately they pass. sorry man...few things are as tough as loosing a pet/family member.

If your pup been chittin like that for a while you may want to ask the vet if you need to give it some electrolytes to help with dehydration.

I hope the dog is better. It is strange, I was looking at your teal post with pictures of him and was thinking to myself there is something that doesn't look right about him. A little thin, eyes looking bulging out a bit. Anyway I hope he gets better!

I haven't had much experience with bloat, but if it was bloat I would think the dog would be dead by now? Talking with other trainers who have had experience with it have told me that the dog usually dies within the first hour or so after noticing symptoms.

Did they rule out an obstruction in the gi tract?

Noticing any blood in the stools?

Brian

Post subject:  Re: man this sux

well yesterday when i got home i talked to the vet and he had some fluid around his intestines, he was anemic and his red blood cells wasnt producing and getting enough oxygen to his liver and bones and long story short in order for him to "maybe" be ok, it would have ended up costing 3000-3500 dollars in surgery. then after that he still could have liver failure because of his low blood count. so yesterday at 6:30 i had to make a very difficult decision and i ended up deciding to put him down.

so REST IN PIECE MY LIL BUDDY.

on another yet ironic note, all teal season this year i havent really done any good cept for last weekend when me and my g/f shot 4 but couldnt find one so ended up with 3.

i had a feeling on this hunt and brought his collar with me in my blind bag, ended up having a two man limit at 7:45 and left more sitting on the water, i guess my briley man knew i was tired and should be home so he sent me home early.

man im gunna miss this dog, but life goes on and ill get another one soon to start the training all over.

I had the same thing happen to one of my black labs. I had to put him down bout three years ago. That was the hardest thing I have ever done my whole life. The only way I could get over it was to go get another. He is a spoiled BASTARD! LOL! Sorry bout your loss. ....Jessie
