Looking for English hunting lab that does not cost a fortune. Had several high bred American labs and I'm done with those. Any ideas especially close to Texas? |

You really should check out ace berry from aces retrievers. Located in kiln ms and is a really great guy to deal with. He has helped me with my British lab and has become a good friend. He is one of the largest British, Irish, lab importer in the us. Literally over 100 dogs at his kennel as we speak. I know he had some that didn't meet " his standards" out of a few litters at discounted rates. If you check your references and still want to go cheaper or deal on a smaller scale I have another close friend with imports. I love my Brit. Hands down smarter, faster learner than any American lab I've had direct contact with. On the down side they tend to be more skiddish and don't "light the ground on fire" when retrieving like Americans. |

Let me correct myself. The dogs were not for me. High bred , ebonstar lean Mac, tru Marc zip ode,sanjoaquin honcho, tanks a lot,. That's what my dogs were out of. They are all good dogs. I think the calmness is bred out of them . At the time I thought I wanted a machine. That's what I got . Could not even set still. The more they retrieved the more it's like they were on crack! So not to offend anyone but they were bred for that & most lost their traditional look. They became tall & lanky. That being said I prefer my next dog to be calm but when it's time to hunt there is not a problem. Also one that will interact with kids better. Hope that clarifies my earlier statement. Thanks for the feedback on where to look. |

I frankly don't care weather a lab is british if it has the right characteristics , and neither should you . I look for a compact dogs with high muscular hindquarters , ample leg length and heads that aren't veritable basketballs . If possible , visit the breeder and watch the dogs run . They should flow across the ground gracefully and with minimal effort . You can have a performance and a calm dog with the right training . I've own a Lean Mac , and Rebel without a cause bloodline bred dog as well . |

I just picked up a English bred pup from workingmansgundog over near Palestine, Tx. I researched the bloodlines, not knowing the breeder but at almost 3 months old she is calmer than any lab I have had. She's been living in the house for about 3 weeks now and minds well and learns quickly. Quick mind but dead calm and so far I'm in love with her. Right now I am wishing I would have kept her instead of buying her for my grandson for his Christmas present. |

The lab I posted a pic of is an American bred lab and I just went hunting with a yellow male American lab and my buddy has a black male American lab and they are the three calmest labs I have ever seen. British, American whatever. I honestly believe it don't mean jack, you could go pick up a pure bread lab (or at least one that looks it) from the pound and train that bitch to hunt, the owner makes the dog, bloodline helps, but it's all in the owner. your moms house |

Look in the GatorTail brochue to see me and my dog Gator,But old gator is getting to be a old man and don't think it will be long before he will have trouble hanging with me hunting everyday of season.he has been the best i have ever owned and will also point quail and pheasant so i am starting to look for a superd puppy (price doesnt matter) please keep me in mine and also if you have a great black or choc female and would want to breed to him let me know please!Gator is a hard hunting dog that picks up around 300 birds a years!Tks guys and good luck |
