Post Last hunt with my old dog.
Snapper makes 13 years old this march. I didn't bring her hunting at all this season due to her age. I left her at the camp all year. Well yesterday I decided to take her out on my last trip of the season since it was relatively warm and i knew it would be her last hunt of her lifetime. She did really well for her age. I had my best hunt of the year watching her do what she does best. It was just her and myself shooting a limit of big ducks. It is definitely a hunt I'll never forget.

As cliche as it sounds.. That really is what it's all about. They love it more than we ever could.

Well guys the last month for snapper has been tough. She has really been going down hill recently. She doesn't really move much anymore. I guess it has a lot to do with her arthritis. She will get up and come to me but sits immediately like it hurts her to move. She's really slowed down on eating also. I will be bringing her to the vet on tomorrow to see what they say. As much as I want her to stay around I would like to see her go so she doesn't suffer anymore. I will let the vet make the decision on if its her time to go or not.

The bright side of things is that I get a free puppy off of my dads chocolate in early 2017.

13 years and 11 months. Today was the day snapper went to doggy heaven. I think she knew knew what was about to happen. She wouldn't even look at me. It was hard but she had to be put down.

RIP Snapper

I'm sorry to hear that. That's the only problem with dogs--they just don't live long enough. People that don't hunt don't understand the special bond we have with our dogs. I'm glad she was able to go that one last time with you.

Thanks guys.

The cycle will start again in the coming months. Snapper was a puppy off of my dads dog Coco years ago. My dads new dog Roxy will be getting bred in the coming months. So get another family dog.

I had a blk lab, for 13 years. Great duck dog. Great family member. After him wanted something a little different. Got me a chocolate male, not your typical looking lab. About 55 lbs at 20months. Long and lean. But already what a retrieving machine. So sad after my blk, so happy to have this one
