Post Back or name?
Which do you prefer to send your dog to retrieve? My dog was trained to leave on Back....But I'm thinking the new puppy needs to be trained by his name or I will be sending two dogs if hunted together when I say Back.lol

I use back on the new dog. My old dog was name on marks and back on blinds.

I was bad mouthing my new dog earlier today and wouldn't you know it.... he did great tonight. Left like he had some heart and did great with right and left over and back casts.

marked retrieves-dogs name
blind retrieves-back

it doesn't matter what you do when hunting if the other dog doesn't have manners.

Why would you send a dog on a mark using "back" unless you aren't gonna teach him to run blinds? And a dog that doesn't run blinds is only half capable.

Started using name on marks with the new dog and back when casting . He picked it up tight off the bat. I guess he is smarter than I give him credit to be

Certainly the most common is to release for a mark with the dogs name and send on a blind with "back". As long as you are consistent it doesn't matter. Bill Hillman only uses "back". I train with a very successful amateur that had an NAFC a few years ago who only uses "back".

I agree and I use the dog's name for marks and "back" for blinds. My point was that some extremely successful people use only "back".

The command you use doesn't really matter you could use peanut butter for a mark and jelly for a blind but you should have separate commands for each.
