Heat pad or Heat lamp for dog?
What do you guys do in the winter to keep your dogs warm in the kennel? Heat pad or heat lamp? I took a job out of town so I am not home M-F to take care of my dog. I have friends feeding the dog but need to come up with a solution to keep the dog warm at night. Any suggestion?

Dad has used a regular light bulb and pinestraw for the beagles when I was little and the labs now.

Re: Heat pad or Heat lamp for dog?
I've an outside kennel , I've built a box , 5'x 4'x 12" put hay and cedar shavings mixed in it , with a shrouded heat lamp shining on it. Lamp is suspended about 5 ft above floor ht, angled to shine on the bed, I got in there it's pretty warm, my squirrel dogs stay in it during the day or on occasion a few night as well . The box is in a 10'x10' chain link kennel with a concrete floor , it has a roof and I tarp 3 sides .

K9 Kondo is what I use, but my lab would sleep on a rubber mat if the temps were above 25 degrees 80% of the time.

A good insulated dog house should be more than enough in Louisiana. I have my dogs outside all winter in Minnesota and I don't turn on their dog heater (Hound Heater with thermistat) unless it's ~25 or colder. They just need a dry place out of the wind--especially if you have more than one dog together.

I use the insulated dog house with the heating pad made for it from Rural King. I think its called the pet palace? It works well, my boykin goes in there when I leave for work on the cold mornings.
