Post subject:  Question about dog box

I have an F150 super crew 4x4, that has a hard tonneau (sp) cover on it.

I need to get a 2 hole dog box that is big/deep enough to put 2 dogs in one hole if needed.

Have any of you ever put a dog box in the back, and close a hardcover leaving the tailgate down. I am worried about exhaust being a problem.

With the tailgate down there should be plenty of airflows, and I have a gate that extends out over the open tailgate to keep the rest of my stuff from falling out.

This would be the most convenient setup for me. But I don't want to gas the dogs.

Any thoughts or experience doing this. What I would really like to find is a CO sensor that I could put back there to make sure I would not have a problem, but I don't have a battery powered one.

Bro, I honestly think the easiest thing to do and best for the dogs is take the hard cover off during hunting season and get you a good gunner kennel or something like that so the dog can comfortably sit up while riding instead of laying down. You also don’t have to worry about any sensors or anything. Remember, a dog can’t tell you if they are light headed or anything like that, regardless of a sensor. I have a soft cover on my truck and roll it when I use the kennel. I think the best thing if you will be toting dogs a lot is to get rid of the hard cover or take it off and run a good kennel on it so the pup is comfortable and you don’t have to worry about exhaust or anything

I wouldn't do it! Get a topper--it's the best money you'll ever spend.

My son just built me this 3 hole box for his high school shop project. I fit 5 dogs in it. A lab, 2 cocker's, a pointer, and a setter.

Thanks. He is only 16 and It was his first real welding project. He was dedicated and meticulous on it. Shop teacher gave him a 100% about halfway through the project. Said it was the nicest welding project to ever come out of his program. Took him about 3 weeks to knock out.
