I have a 6 year old solid black male that is a hunting machine as well. Picks up quail, dove, pheasants, snipe, ducks, pigeons. Haven't seen much he won't try to hunt/retrieve.... including cats and skunks. They won't replace my 4 year old black lab in big water, but they are versatile. I have a pointer and a setter as well. Cockers are becoming my favorite.... even though my lab is so easy to work a small child can run him. Big difference between a 20 pound dog in your lap and a 90 pound dog in your lap. My son and his buddy snag ole Rudy as soon as I get to the dove field. He gets a serious workout with them because they rarely miss. My son is a B class shooter with a mid 80's average and his buddy is a Master Class shooter and the 2019 Junior World Champion and World Open Class Champion (Team USA and Team Beretta with a high 90's average).
