Post Drake
Well, my chocolate lab (Drake) is not doin so well. He has had diarhea for da last 2 day and has not been eatin or drinkin much. Then today I come home from work and der is close to a half a gallon of blood in his kennel. So I let him out to clean his kennel and he just steps out and lays down. Not like him at all, he is a very energetic lab, then I watched him shit allmost a quart of blood out and then lay back down so I called da vet's cell phone. Vet said bring him in first thing tomorrow mournin, they will do X-rays and put him on I.V.'s since every time he trys to drink water he throws it right back up. At this point we don't really know what is wrong. He could have ate somethin sharp dat could have torn his intestines or it could be some other medical problem he is havin. I was hopin da vet was gonna tell me it could be just a virus he may have but after goin thru all da questions about his symptoms da vet feals dat it is far more serious than dat. But she did feal dat he would be allright to make it thru tonight and just bring him in first thing in da mournin but said that needs to be my decission. I hope I have made da right decission by waitin until da mournin to bring him to her instead of goin to da LSU veterinarian hospital tonight. I will be up all night tonight wit him because wit da amount of time I have invested in trainin dis dog I'll be damned if he dies on me. Not to mention da incredible bound we have formed between us, I have had many dogs in my life but dis one is extra special to me for sum unknown reason. Anyway I'm not gonna ask yall to pray for a dog but please keep him in your thought and if you feel like it I'm sure prayers won't hurt.

Don't wait til tomorrow. Had almost the same thing happen with my dog two years ago Good Friday. Never did figure out what poisoned him. I waited until the next morning and to this day I feel lucky he is still alive. He was bleeding into his digestive system. He just about bled out.

I am in New Orleans and went to the Veternary Referal Clinic in Mandeville. I highly reccomend them and have been told they are the best thing this side of LSU, but bring your checkbook.

Prayers sent.

I wouldn't wait either that sounds very serious throwing up blood and pooping blood to me would be straight to Doggy ER... I'd rather be overly cautious.

Well da vet said dat b/c his gums are still red it means he still has a good blood count and dat da blood I'm seein him shit is watered down blood. But she believes he can wait till da mournin. To late for me now anyhow dis shit done drove me to drinkin da whiskey tonight. And as much as I love dat dog I love my family more so I won't risk drivin drunk.
But thanks for da thoughts and prayers. And Jake I'm glad he impressed you on dat misserably cold as hunt.

I had the same thing happen to my dog... they never found anything wrong with her and she eventually got better after IV's. Only thing I can think of is she ate one of my jalapeno bushes? I've seen a lot of dog's eat treble hooks, trying to get some stink bait. just something to think about... hope your dog gets better.

Droped him off at da vet at 8 am. They will do xwrays, blood work, and put him on fluids. They will call me when they know sumthin but he does look a little better dis mournin. I gave him a raw egg last night cause I knew it would give him d
sum much needed nutrition and would be easy on his stomache.

Post Re: Drake
Well da vet tested him for Parvo even though he is up to date on his vacinations and we can now rule dat out. X-rays didn't show anything either. Also he da test don't show any signs of poisons dat hey could have consumed. He does seem to be feelin better and is able to keep water down. She thinks he has sum type of virus dat is causin his stomache and/or intestines to bleed easily so she will run test for other viruses. As of now she thinks if he does not eat solid foods for a few days he will heal up on his own and da virus will go thru it's course then he will get better. Main thing is they are keepin him on IV's to keep him hydrated. I will know later on dis afternoon if he can come home or if he needs to remain in der care for a few more days, pend more test results.
Talk about scared da shit out of me. Last night I didn't know if he would lve to see da sun come up but now things are startin to look up. Thanks for da support fellas. I let yall know more as I recieve more information.

Just sumthin to keep in mind. Eggs can save.
Da vet said when things like dis happen to dogs they can dehydrate and loose all da nutrients they need, causin death. I was told it is important to get fluids and nutrition into der body in small quanities so dat they do not vomit it back up. She said dat me pourin da raw egg down his throat may have been what helped him get thru da night. ~Good ideas allways come to me when I drink~

Post Re: Drake
QC,

Sorry to hear that man..

Hope he continues to improve throught out the day.

Had a dog get parvo once, and it was scary.

I fed her pedialite and gatorade thru a baster of some sort (guess it was probably a turkey baster-it was my mom's) for a few days and she pulled thru... (this was after going to vet and them saying there was nothing they could really do, so just go home and try that.... It was 30 yrs ago. not sure why they didn't do IV's but this is what they told me to do so I did...)

Vet was amazed she pulled thru and said only thing that saved her was that pedialite.....

So if any one else runs into this, while waiting to go to vet, try that if nothing else...
