As this event grows I want to take some feedback from some of you guys that have come every year and even some of you that came for the first time this year. If you have suggestions about registration, logistics, events, etc I will take them into consideration. I want this run to continue to get bigger, be fun, entertaining, and most importantly safe. You can post any suggestions here and as we plan for next year we will look for ways to improve. Thanks everyone!

Glad to see it went well. Just a bit of advice. No matter what, if the weather looks to be nasty, change plans for cooking because everyone knows you can't fry fish in the rain.

I thought it went well, sucked that we didn't make all 5 stops because some how half the pack got lost. This year didn't seem to have as many boats guiding the run from what I noticed. Definitely like how the past 2 years we've done the cards on paper and with a number. Keeps it how it should be and guys can't swap for the best hands. This year seemed like a lot of the guys did the run but not many stayed to hangout and have dinner

We've been fortunate with weather for the most part other than hot as hell. I will be recruiting more "guide boats" next year. Yea I noticed that people seemed to dissipate quickly after lunch. I think a lack of being able to do announcements affected that which is why people will get typed itinerary and instructions when they register next year

Only suggestion I have is that we might should do our own lunch. I'm sure there are plenty of people here that know how to cook and wouldn't mind helping out and I'll volunteer myself if needed. We just overrun big jims and everybody gets hot and pissed off waiting on lunch for over an hour. That would help keep everyone together for the raffle and keep people hanging around.
Logistically maybe we could go out Friday and mark some of the trail heads and turns where people could get lost. Hell even make a map of the stops and just post it here on the forum
Just a few ideas though, I think y'all do a pretty good job with it and this year was huge.

The run to the first stop is fairly wide open and easily followed. On the megaphone tell everyone when we are about to leave like you always do and roll out having nominated a guy to be last man so you know when he gets there thats it. Dont hand out any cards until that guy shows up, and you have told everyone what they need to do. Pick a few boats that you know have been there for a few years and point them out or have matching flags or something to identify them so the newer guys can ask questions or be led more easily while you do your thing with the cards. Lunch does take too long but Im not sure of a feasible way to remedy that. Having said that i think you guys have always done a great job with it and it will never be perfect, but it wouldn't be any fun if it was.

Matching flags for the poker run crew is a great idea. Go old school with some walkie talkies to keep up with when the last guy rolls into a stop and use for the trail guides. Megaphone to keep the others waiting informed. All great ideas.

Yea who the hell was that? He kept trying to get in front of me while I was leading the damn thing. Mack finally told them that if they couldn't follow directions or drive with some common sense to take their shit to the house.

Everybody was running half throttle down the trails during the poker run, Daniels boat leading. Just getting through so everyone could keep up. This idiot is trying to pass everybody, including daniel, running between boats waiting to get cards, just acting like a fool

OG's would like to have the trails flagged or matching flags on boats that guide the run

There also needs to be an announcement to not bunch up on the trails cause it seems there are people showing up with very little tiller time

And the fish for supper needed salt

When you buy a 20k boat with daddy's money you tend to not give a crap about following rules or common sense.
As for lunch I did not stick around because I had a 3 hour trip back home, next year I will plan to stay and partake in the after party

Next year make sure you book a place to stay early! The formal festivities are fun, but everyone cuts loose after lunch!

Post subject:  Re: Suggestions

I figured after lunch is when it got real fun but I had to get back home and Big Jims was packed so I knew it would take a while to get food.
Next year we could bring a big trailer smoker and cook some pork butts and have a BBQ lunch. It would be relatively cheap and damn good. It doesn't get much better than beer, BBQ, boats, and half naked woman walking around!

Post subject:  Re: Suggestions

Food is a consideration. However, cooking for 150 people and feeding them all would take a similar amount of time, and we would be outside in the heat and gnats. I also have a good relationship with the guy that owns big Jims and he lets us get by with some things that he wouldn't necessarily let any other group do and part of that is the business we bring him. He might not let someone else sell food on his property

Obviously what you are doing works or we would not have had over 73 boats in the run this year. Remember just 8-9 yrs ago we had 12 boats.

A couple ideas, take em or leave em.

1. Make the runs from 1 spot to the next a little longer to allow more tiller time and get boats spread out. If we handed out a map and gps coordinate for each stop this would be easy.

2. Make 1 or 2 stops in areas that have decent water to swim in. I thought I was gonna faint a few times sitting in those holes with no breeze. Plus a few of us needed to drain the main vein and it was hard with so many boats, women and children around.

3. Everyone could pack a lunch in their boat and make the Poker Run go through lunch. Or give everyone 3 options on the Big Jim's menu and order ahead of time. Burger, Shrimp, or Chicken.

4. If you wanted to draw more boats, run open water and that way the outboards could be involved. Maybe even the I/O's. ;) Run out of Big Jims and make stops at the State Park, the Dam, back up the Flint and through the cutoff, going back around to Big Jims. This would be a 4-5 gallon of gas run.

Finally remember you're not gonna make 75 boats happy. They goin to complain about the weather, location, gnats, young kids driving too fast, old guys driving too slow, no place to park their boat, no place to spend the night, too many pine trees to back up safely, etc etc

Post subject:  Re: Suggestions

Dale, I know we can't make everyone happy but I'm taking any suggestions that are feasible into consideration. An "open water" run is one we seriously considered this year leading up to this but didn't go with it for this year but it's possible in the future. Your suggestion of a 3 choice meal choice is a very good one and I will talk to Steve about something like that for next year. I'm already planning on instructions and likely a map to hand out as drivers sign up next year. If you think of anything else let me know.
