Im in the market to buy a flat bottom with a surface drive motor.... I have been looking around at the various models and so far Gatortail, Excel, and Beavertail seem to be my top choices...... Are there any others that I should consider looking at??

what motor are you getting? or what motor do you got? some motors perform better on other hulls than others. dependin on what type of motor you got may help with your decision on what hull to get.

I want a boat with a flat bottom and most likely a 35 hp surface drive. Im sure most SD motors perform alike..... But I don't know yet. I do want a boat with a side console.... Is there a downfall to the side console method??

Not to contradict ya SWM, but if he's in CA, wouldn't it be a big time PIA to have a custom built in south LA? I aint knockin Brother, J, or anybody else, just seems it might be more beneficial, in his case, to buy from one of the big name manufacturers so he could take care of everything locally, instead of havin to travel 1/2 way across the country. I know he could get it shipped, but seems like it would end up bein a hassle more than anything else. Just my .02.

get you something like an excel v-bottom, if your going to be running big water. you should be able to find them in cali vs. a custom boat builder in this area of TX/LA

post the kind of conditions you will be hunting and some personal preferences and some people on here will chime in with some good ideas.

yeah, justin I think he ran an aucoin and a stage 3 pd. I think.. I'm positive bout the hull though. He sold it a while back.

Just so you all know... I will be hunting the San Pablo bay and also the calm contributaries that rip to it...... And as for the guy that thinks I need to test drive a flat bottom.... f%$@ that!!! Im gonna tear it up in the tidal mud flats and sit right in my little mallard hole and dump em... and yes, I am about to dump 16,000 gs into and bad ass boat thats gonna keep me huntin till Im old and can't even blow a call. Dump em!!!

Ha! and my reason for side console is simply having the luxury of a full size boat packed into a toolie patch capable of runnin through the flats, where NO ONE else goes to kill birds. Burniin it is for when posted wait for birds to come in.... lol NOrCAL style.....

The term "dump em" that I used is something between me and my buddies around here. But yes, it does mean the same thing as "take em" or whatever you may say. All I know is that duck hunting is the greatest thing in the world, and modern days allow us to have motors such as a SD motor. I really wanna take advantage of this while Im still young anyhow.
