You could get by without it but I use my pointed bow to navigate the thick trees. You can put your bow on a tree and kick the azz end around and still be going in the right direction without having to back up or push off.

I love my heavy duty pointed bow on my Phowler. In the timber you can really get away with a lot of tight turns due to it sliding off the trees and vines. In the button willows or buckbrush you can "part the way" while going through them and not worry about them catching the corners of the bow. I can't imagine trying to run in the green timber here in Arkansas with a flat nose boat.

I would say that the V-Bow Fronts are stronger than that of flat. I know the ones that I build are. I use all 3/16 alum in the construction of the V-bow. Also, the angles and Bulkheads used are closer than that of a Flat front. V-Bow is the way to go..

I have a flat bow on mine that me and dad rebuilt and made out of 3/16 and I don't baby my 25 Johnson at all and I have hit trees pretty hard just about every time I go in the timber and ain't got a dent in it. But I would still go with the v bow anyday especially with a mm.

Yeah. Really doesn't have to be much. Depending on the width say 3' need about 6 to 8 inches. I don't really know just guessing. And I'd hope you wouldn't be runnin into trees at 20 mph! That's a very hard hit!

A pointed bow can sometimes turn what would have been an dead halt into more of a glancing blow.

Flat front is the only way to mount yore trollin' motor and do the type of fishin' I do .... Flat front looks 100% mo-better ...... Flat front is mo-better to git in from a beached boat .....

There is absoulute no bennifit to a Jon/Bateu boat hull to have a "modified-V" front end ..... V fronts are fo CrawFish Skiffs ........... NOT Jon/Bateua type boathulls.

'Course this is only mines opinion and does not put a reflection on anybody or anythang affilated with MMT !!!!!

Different fronts for different applications. We build mostly flat fronts for up north, we rarely get into the timber in the fall with low river levels, send almost 100% with pointed bows south of IL and also build a true V front for guys running really rough water. They all have their place, just depends on what works best in a given situation.
