 Need Expert GDSD Advice
I have a GDSD 25 Kohler on a Lund modified v 1448. The boat is terrible. I also tried the motor on a 1446 G3. Still not getting top end performance. Only pushing around 17 mph. I know there are better boats. Which is best for 1-2 men and a dog? I wa thinking about a GDSD boat or either a Aucoin boat, but I can't get any info on Aucoins.

 Re: Need Expert GDSD Advice
Welcome to MMT...
Modified V and ribs both negatively effect perfornance.... As does the wrong or worn prop - call GD with your SN and order up a prop ASAP - you will need it even if your current one is still good - I burned up 2 props this hunting season....
In Go Devil's current models the 16x48 would be a good choice.... In prior models the 18x36 skiff was a good one too for 25hp.... The brand new Phowler 1540 or 1640 would be worth consideration too - as they are intended for the lower HP Copperheads....
Otherwise you need to match transom height to GDSD model if you are going custom built and keep it light and narrow....
25mph solo is about max even on an ideal hull and 20mph with 2 and gear for a hunting load....

 Re: Need Expert GDSD Advice
I am looking for top end speed. I do need a new prop, the three blade on there now has been used for two seasons in sand and heavy mud...About the width of the boat, isn't wider better for the SDs? I like narrower boats, but if a wider boat is the ticket I can deal with it. Regarding custom boats, should it be a 15, 16, or 17 footer? Remember, I want speed. I guess I need to get that flat bottom and some more surface area... Thanks for the posts.

Also, when we first got the motor it had a nice rooster tail when running on the surface, but it will not even run that way any more it has to be completely submerged before it will push the boat up at all...Prop I guess?

Speed = Outboard, not a MM

 Re: Need Expert GDSD Advice
Yes, I understand the simple logic of your statement. Let me clarify. More speed from my motor, not an outboard. I run shallow every day of the season; I am just used to longtails and I want the best performance out of the SD.
